Default C5 Steering Rack . Any choices?

I'm pretty sure we have no choice, but a re-manufactured one from GM. Is that true? I've gone through a couple of them 2 years ago. Now it's time again. This one is leaking from the boot area.
25-30 autocross and track days a year.

thanks,
Steve

Except for high dollar custom racks, which are usually not convenient, usually don't fit into any class rules, and are $$$$, as far as I know remans are all there is. There are different levels of remans though. Most have had better luck with AC Delco/oem remans then the aftermarket units. My car chewed one this year at the Glen and in the next race that new one was destroyed in a wreck. Expensive little buggers.......

^^^ Aside from a full custom rack, the OE's or reman OE's are the only real option right now.

I'd love to see a comodity aftermarket rack, but I don't know if there's that much call for replacement racks, aside for die-hards that are on the track w/ larger than OE tires.

I just bought one from Gene Culley a couple of weeks ago and it ~$755 including freight and a core charge of $50. It was a remanufactureded unit.

Has anyone tried Lucas power steering fluid to resolve their leaks? I had a serious leak with my C5 after one event (reservoir was pratically drained), and I filled it up with Lucas. It took a few days, but the leak stopped and held up great at my next open track event. It might not work for everyone, but it is worth a try considering the cost of replacement.

How does Lucas stand up to heat? I use Redline and it tolerates it well, but I don't think it has the sealing charcteristic.

OK, thanks ... so ... anyone with a C5 or C6 not one of the above can/should replace PS rack with Z06/Z51 rack? (or if possible, add cooler to existing rack? )

I'll give it a try.

Is it still working?

I called up Rock Auto and they have a lifetime warranty on there steering racks. I will probably order one just in case this Lucas stop leak doesn't work.

thanks,
Steve

I'll probably do the same. Rock Auto rack with the lifetime warranty sounds promising.

What did it the cost from Rock Auto ?

The racks are all the same. Put on a cooler.

And, swap the pump . . pull some of the heat out of the system, and it's amazing how things end up working.

. . . now all we need to figure out, is how to solidly mount a remote fluid tank (pref a tank that looks like a giant heatsink)

Thanks, Mountainbiker2. I'm going to replace the stock Z06 cooler with a much bigger one.
