Ran The Scca T1 Race At Sebring This Past Weekend
WHAT A BLAST! I LOADED UP THE CAR IN THE KUMHO SEMI AND HEADED DOWN TO SOME WARMER WEATHER FOR THE ANNUAL SCCA TURKEY TROT RACE.
THIS WAS MY FIRST RACE AT SEBRING WITH SCCA USING THE LONG 3.7 MILE TRACK. I GOT A 15 MINUTE WARM UP SATURDAY AM BEFORE MY LATE MORNING QUALIFYING SESSION. RAN A 2:22.0 IN SOME HEAVY TRAFFIC AND FELT PRETTY GOOD WITH THAT FOR MY FIRST TIME OUT.
I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE JEFF MYERS THERE WHO CREWS AND DOES THE CAR SET UP FOR PHIL CROYLE. HE WAS MY CREW CHIEF AND SET UP MAN FOR THE WEEKEND. I GAVE HIM FEEDBACK ON WHAT THE CAR WAS DOING AND HE WENT TO WORK CHANGING ALIGNMENT,CAMBER,TOE AND RIDE HEIGHT.
HE MADE MORE CHANGES FOR SUNDAYS RACE TO GET ME DIALED IN. I WENT OUT SUNDAY AM FOR THE 15 MINUTE HARDSHIP WARM UP TO FEEL HER OUT AND BED SOME PADS IN. WOW! JEFF DID ONE HECK OF A JOB, CAUSE THIS THING HANDLED GREAT.
I CONCENTRATED ON FINDING THE LINE AND BREAKING POINTS. PHIL CROYLE SHOWED UP TO GIVE ME SOME TIPS WHICH WAS PRICELESS.
I QUALIFIED WITH A 2:22.1 AND WAS THE ONLY T1 CAR THERE. I HAD GT1,SPO,SPU,ETC IN MY GROUP OF 30 CARS. I WAS 6TH OVERALL FOR QUALIFYING. THOSE GUYS RUNNING THOSE NASCAR LOOKING RIDES ARE STUPID FAST AND SO LOUD I COULD'NT THINK WHEN THEY DROVE BY.
THE START WAS NICE AND CLEAN GOING INTO T1 AND THE GT1 BOYS SLOWLY PULLED AWAY AND THE GROUP BEHIND ME WAS WAY BACK. I THOUGHT IF I HAD A CHANCE TO GET A CLEAN FAST LAP IN WHILE THE TIRES WERE GOOD AND TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT, HERE'S MY CHANCE.
I PUT MY HEAD DOWN AND MADE SURE I HIT MY MARKS AND WAS SMOOTH AS GLASS. I COME AROUND AND CROSS THE START/FINISH ON MY SECOND LAP AND JEFF RADIO'S ME AND SAYS 2:19.8. I ABOUT LOST MY HEAD GOING INTO 1 ON THAT CALL.
THAT WAS GREAT TO HEAR THAT, SO TRYING TO BE SMART WITH 20 MINUTES LEFT, I KICKED BACK AND RAN NICE CONSISTANT 2:22 LAPS UNTIL THE CHECKER. NO NEED TO TEAR UP A CAR WHEN YOU ARE A ONE CAR CLASS RIGHT?
THE KUMHO'S WERE HOOKING GREAT ALONG WITH JEFF'S SET UP. I PULLED IN AND CHECKED THE OFFICIAL RESULTS FOR THE RACE AND I ENDED UP 6TH OVERALL & ACTUALLY RAN A 2:19.703 WHICH WAS ONLY 3 TENTHS OFF JOHN HEINRICY'S TRACK RECORD.
NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THESE RESULTS FOR MY FIRST RACE THERE. NOW, IF I CAN GET SOME $7,000.00 TRIPLE ADJUSTABLE MOTONS SHOCKS AND A NEW FRESH MOTOR, I THINK WE HAVE A REALLY GOOD CAR FOR NATIONAL COMPETITION. SPONSORS ANYONE???

minidv is a great format for in-car. High quality and very durable, but short.
I think solid state is the next big thing. I have a flash drive camera, but haven't tried it yet.....they unfortunately use plastic for the threaded mount insert

Yes they are very short on time though, like 30 minutes.

That is a bummer. Yes, you need either a mini DV tape system or one of the new solid state systems like the ones sold by American Race Day (one of my sponsors).
