Default Cadillac Return to ALMS? - Corvette LMP Decision/Announcement Soon?

FWIW - The 12/3 edition of Autoweek is reporting that Cadillac is considering a return to ALMS as part of a major reorganization of GM sports car racing over the next 2 years. Its return would be contingent on the Chevy Corvette moving up from GT1 to the new ACO proposed LMP evo class. Caddy would then enter either GT1 or GT2 with a fixed roof version of its XLR roadster, possibly in 2009, when the model is scheduled for a design update.

The story also reports that a final decision on the Corvette LMP is expected within a month, with a possible announcement at the same time that Chevy confirms it's return to ALMS GT1 for 2008.

That's awesome, I think an XLR race car would look great.

The XLR shares the Chassis with the C6 doesn't it? Assuming P&M build it, I would think that most of the development work on the C6.R would fit very well into the XLR program. Mostly just a new body on the current car.

Yes, the XLR shares the corvette chassis

The article states that P&M would be the logical builder if Caddy decides to enter GT1, and mentions Riley as a possibilty if Caddy decides on GT2, based on the experience gained building LG's GT2 corvette

I'd rather see Caddy in GT1, GT2 is for privateers like LG, getting factory teams any more involved than they already are would cause a lot of problems.

-Back the privateer vettes in GT2
-Run the XLR in GT1
-Build a new Prototype Corvette and go for the overall Le Mans win (Maybe we'll finally get a mid-engine car after 30 years of talk/rumors)

I do not think that LMP would sell many Vettes. GT1 does. Leave the Caddy in SCCA circles.

Corvette LMP...very interesting. Hopefully they will have better success than the Cadillac LMP2's (a couple of years back)...

I think they need to go LMP with another Caddy (which I've been saying for years) and drop the GT1 idea entirely... Help the privateer GT2 guys out a bit with the Vettes.
