Autox Tire Choice
I have run the Hoosier A3S04, the V710 and this rookie cannot distinguish a performance differwence on low speed autox. Anybody have any 2 cents to add?
Is the A6 a lot better?
Can anything be sprayed on older oxidized tires to "liven them up"...how long do you keep a tire around before it starts loosing it's grip?
I've also done some HPDEs with the A3s and the V710s and don't have a feel for which is better here either.
Anybody try the NT01 OR NT555R11 for autox?

For AutoX, the A6 is better IMO, but by a very slim margin over the 710. Kumho also changed the compound a little on the 710 for 2008 also so we will have to wait and see.

I was very happy with the 710's I had on my cobra. They worked very well for both Autox and track days. I have not tried the A6's but I have several friends that have and they say they are flat out faster than the 710's. Like Steve said Kumho changed the 710 for 08. It should be interesting to see how the two compare.
I plan on running 08 on street tires to get used to the new car. (03 Z06) Should give the new 710 lots of time to be tested before I make the jump to R's.

Look at the Solo National Champions in Topeka; most fo them were on A6s for the obvious reason that they are faster.

well.....if you can't tell that a 710 is harder than a a3s04. just buy whats cheaper for you. A6 is def the king but you have to push your vehicle a lot harder to make it worth the money...they aint cheap!

Important question: what kind of surface do you run on? Anything but concrete the A6 is the flat-out winner. End of story.
On VERY grippy concrete A6s don't hold much advantage to the 710s. On a VERY grippy concrete lot 710s are probably as fast as A6s, and will wear much better.

One thing to consider in the V710 v A6 debate is not purely that they're pretty close because of the compound / construction etc... The A6 is offered in much better / more suitable sizes for the Vette... In super stock at least, the 315/30/18 Hoosier is about an inch shorter than the 315/35/18 V710. The bead design of the Hoosier fits a lot better on slightly undersized wheels so the 295 fits a lot better a 9.5" wheel and the 315 on a 10.5"

LAST YEAR I RAN MAINLY ON BACKTOP SURFACES: AUTOX - NCCC(II-H)AND SCCA(ASP) EVENTS, LANCASTER TO HARRISBURG (FARM SHOW LOT), SUMMIT POINT - JEFFERSON AND SUMMIT PT., POCONO HDPE.
BY THE WAY TIRE TEMPS NEVER GOT ABOVE 130 F.
I'VE RUN THE 275/305 ON STD. C5 WHEELS: 8.5"/9.5". THEN JUMPED TO ZR1 WHEELS AND NOW RUN 275/315s.
I'LL PROBABLY STICK WITH THE HOOSIERS FOR NOW.

Spook! I Guess I Gave The Corner Workers Some Excitment.
Kurt At Phoenix Will Put A Patch On The Aluminum Frame And Give It A Through Looking Over Then Do Alignment Within The Next Couple Of Weeks. My Radiator Support Was Bent And Center Air Dam Needs Some Tlc.
I Got Some Z51 Bars That Are Going On Soon.
Re:abs Issues...no Warning Lights Since Oem Brake Line Went On. Ordered Gooodridge Lines And Will Use Copper Washers. I Found That The Russells Had Aluminum Washers.
I Was Bowhunting In November And Slipped, Fell And Have Had My Right Wrist In An Erector Set Cast Since. So Wrenching On The C5 Had Come To A Halt.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
Good luck and best wishes for a full recovery - for both the C-5 and your wrist!! Hope to see you at Pocono - not sure yet if I'll run the old C-4 or put the C-5 back on the track.
Happy New Year, Take care, good luck with the wrist -
Mike B.

Well if your a rookie, I always suggest learning on street tires. Mainly because they have more feedback and you can learn the limits of your car a little better.
What surface are you racing on? how is the typical AutoX setup on tires?
This is a big factor with most members in our local club because our lot tears up tires. And really you don't need to run the absolute stickiest tires to be competive at the local level. Typically the people running R's have the experience to make them winners not just the tires. Because of our Great Lot its big but also hard on tires because of this most members choose to run hard compound tires. I am impressed with the NT01's they aren't the Fastest but they have a nice feel, give decent feedback, and wear like iron they can make it through 1 very punishing season unlike 710's or hoosiers a6's which typically go through 1.5 sets if you race alot.
On your old tires you can use goat ****, VHT or hot lap it will help some but the tires won't last long. Dirt track guys also use diesel also.
I spoke with Kumho Guy's at SEMA about the 710's because we had a bunch of local guys get into a bad batch. It doesn't sound like the new compound will be out until late spring. It also sounded like they were going to change the name 710w's but that hadn't been decided as of that time. Stickiness should be the same but with a greater heat range. O and one other thing they will be treaded similar to the ecsta.

ASPHALT SURFACES: LOCAL PARKING LOTS, POCONO NORTH COURSE, SUMMIT POINT - JEFFERSON AND MAIN TRACK. ALL ASPHALT EXCEPT FOR THE CONCRETE PATCHES. I'VE RUN EMTS, KUMHO MXs, KDs, and
A3S04s AT JEFFERSON AND POCONO. LAST APRIL I RAN THE A3S04s at POCONO AND LOVED THEM. I WANTED TO KNOW IF THE A6s WERE A BIT BETTER OR IF THE V710s AND SHOULD BE TRIED.
OF COURSE MY C5 SPORTS A 4X6 TIRE TRAILER AND 2 SETS OF TIRES NOW!
I'M STUCK ON STICKIES.
