Default Any downside to the rechargable AMB x260 transponder?

As the title asks...is there any downside to the rechargable version of the AMB x260 transponder? Or should I just purchase the hardwired version? I have no plans to have more then 1 track/race car at a time

Maybe forgetting to recharge?

Chris Ingle said he had both and rechargeable worked fine.

I hard wired mine, as I am prone to forgetting to turn things on/off at the track. The C5 has a nice fused pigtail under the passenger floor carpet which makes hook-up easy. I screwed mine to the passenger kickpanel where it is nice and dry.

Here a link to thread on installation.

The floor below the sill is transparent to transponder signals and worked just fine.

As long as you take care of a rechargeable they're great.

They're a little more expensive but the advantages are nice. I've loaned mine to friends who have forgotten theirs. I've thrown it in my street car for HPDE's while the 'vette is down. And I can take it out when not needed to keep it away from sticky fingers...

I bought mine used here on the Forum and used it for a season since (three years old now). Still holds a 4 day charge with no reduction in battery performance.

All you have to do in the off-season is store it in its cradle and fully charge it every three months. Piece of cake.

I've used a rechargeable transponder for all my races without any real issues. The only downsides are forgetting to charge it before the race weekend, but I found that charging it on the way there via a 12v outlet works well. I usually charge mine up, put it in the first morning of practice and it is good for a whole three day weekend without touching it. I did put it on my pre-race checklist to ensure it is charged, and on my pre-track checklist to ensure it is on the car. Haven't forgotten it yet...

I've got over 3 years on a rechargeable and only forgot to put in charger
once. Even then I put it in the console on car charger for
a couple hours and ran the rest of the day with it then charged over
night. Never missed a session yet.

I used to put mine on the rear licence plate frame with zip tie and then
painters tape. But lately I just tape it to the side of the 6 disc changer
in the rear end. Only had one of 5 tracks where that didn't work and
had to put it outside. Worst issue was having to pull off 20 or 50 miles
down the road home as I remembered that it was back there with blue
tape covering my licence plate, whoops!
