Default rotors for HPDE

I am planning on changing my '06 Z51 rotors to base rotors for my next HPDE. I have the caliper brackets for the base brakes. NAPAs website lists these part numbers and stats for '06 base rotors:

part no. 880253 front $76.99
OD 12.795"
Thickness 1.26"
Height 1.79"
part no. 880252 rear $73.49
OD 12.02"

Napa also lists the following part numbers and stats for an '04:

part no. 86701,86700 front left and right $40.79 each
OD 12.08"
Thickness 1.26"
Height 1.79"
Part no. 86703,86702 rear left and right $34.99 each
OD 12"

So....my question is...you thought I would never ask...will the '04 rotors at $151.56 a set fit the base '06? It looks like what you get for doubling the price is cooling veins that point the wrong way on one side. Is there something else I am missing?

Thanks

I've been reading all the threads on this mod but the one thing I don't understand is what exactly I need to do to run these rotors on my Z51 C6? I think I need to change to the C5 caliper mounting bracket? Is it really that simple? My Z51 calipers bolt right up to these brackets with no other modification? Best place to get the brackets? Any pics of JUST the brackets?

What I see myself wanting to do is have a set of NAPA rotors to use with track pads at the track and the OEM Z51 rotors and pads for the street. Is that practical?

YES same caliper just different lettering, between the C5 and C6 AND C6Z51

The rear C6 Calipers have a slightly larger piston then the C5s rear caliper. IIRC

I don't want to hijack your thread Bill but what's the down side of this mod? The Z51 rotors are 13" and the C5 rotors are 12", right? Will that make that much difference?

and how many holes are in the OEM Z51 rotor? There is your difference. Rotors will crack sooner or latter. The cost difference between th Z51 OEM and the Raybestos rotor is significant, but wont last that much longer.

The C5 brackets and the C6 base brackets may be the same. I am not sure. But...here are the part numbers for the C6 base brackets that I bought at my local Chevy dealer:

Front: 88955518 listed for $43 each
Rear: 88955506 listed for $42.14 each

Total cost with discount because they are also our club sponsor was $136.62.

thanks

Without a doubt. I totally agree. I would love nothing more than to get rid of the drilled and slotted rotors. I can probably run the OEM rotors for years with the amount of street driving I do but not if I'm going to track them as well. I just had them turned yesterday after 4 track days. Down to 1.221. The rears are still fine.

Bill,

You have me confused now. I thought we were talking about switching to C5 brackets and C5 rotors. Why did you switch to base C6 brackets?

Probably because I wasn't smart enough to figure out that the C5 brackets might fit and might even be cheaper.

Do the NAPA rotors fit with either brackets?

Since I have not used the C5 brackets, I cannot say for sure. Maybe Tom or others may know. All I know is that he C5 rotor and the C6 base rotor appear to be the same size and the C5 rotor is half as much per set.

Cool, thanks. I think I will do this. Run the C5 brackets and rotors with track pads for track day and the OEM rotors for street use.

I did just back down to Hawk ceramics for the street. No need for all that dust for street use. I put them on yesterday and, after bedding, they seem more than adequate.

I am going to try the HP Pluses for the track, I know there are mixed opinions on these but they were great on my much heavier previous track car. If they don't work, I will switch to the DTC-70s.

C6Z51->C6 Base (aka C5)

The part number on the caliper brackets (abutments) are 12455800 and 12455799. You'll need to order 2 of each. Then you can run the C6 base/C5 cheapo NAPA rotors. That's front and rear. You might not care if you downgrade the rears. I've run this way the past two years on my C6Z51 with PFC 01 pads up front and either PFC-Z or Wilwood H in the rear.

It is a bit of a PITA to change the abutments all the time if you plan to run different rotors between street and track... if you plan to do that I recommend getting new slide pins (or whatever they're called), too.

The NAPA rotors need the C5 or the standard C6 Caliper Bracket. If you use the Z51 caliper bracket, the pads will not line up with rotor fire path.

I ordered a set of the C5 brackets to use on my '07 Z51 car. The C5 front brackets fit fine on an '07 C6. The C5 rear brackets I received would not work on my car. Not sure what the problem is yet, probably miss boxed brackets. I am getting the 8895506 C6 specific rear brackets tomorrow after trying the 12455800 C5 rears, then I will compare.

Really? On my '06 C6 Z51 I used the front (12455799) and rear (12455800) brackets and I run the NAPA rotors...

What didn't fit?

The 12455800 brackets I received for the rear don't even have the holes tapped for the spindle bolts. Perhaps the ones I received were boxed incorrectly, not sure yet. I won't know until I get the correct ones. On the front, the C5 parts look exactly like the C6 Z51 except for the distance to the caliper bolts. I'll post a picture of what I got, maybe you can tell me if it looks like what you received.

'07 Z51 on the left, The 12455800 I received is on the right. Was yours different? I hope so.

If it didn't look like just a shorter version of the C6Z51 rears like the fronts did I suspect you got a bum part in packaging, and not a bum part based on part number.
