An announcement of the Official Groundbreaking for North Carolina’s only dedicated road course, High Rock Raceway, the world's first 'green' racetrack is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15th. The track is located on Interstate-85, 40 minutes north of Charlotte and plans to open in October of this year.

Said track owner and CEO David L. Risdon, "Our track was designed by world renowned road racer Elliott Forbes-Robinson. The topography of the site coupled with his design gives the track ten continuous changes in elevation from thirty to sixty feet. This will result in a challenging and exciting racing experience for both drivers and spectators. “

All commercial and residential building, including 120 trackside luxury condos, at the Raceway will meet "North Carolina HealthyBuilt Homes” guidelines and showcase construction materials technology designed to reduce consumption and minimize environmental impact.

“From recycled paper for the hot dog wrappers to free track resources for companies developing alternative fuel and low emission vehicle technology, High Rock Raceway is committed to its mission of 'green racing.'" said Risdon.

Added Sam Barnett, VP of Development, "We have a unique opportunity to really make a difference in the future of motorsports and its impact on the environment. We hope to serve as a model that inspires other racing venues around the world."

They better hustle with the construction - a couple of groups I know about with have already booked late summer - end of season dates there. Looks like it will be a fun track. Hope that they get enough advance sales of condos and memberships to make it fly quickly. I would love to have another nice track within driving range.

I am the VP of Development for High Rock Raceway so I can assure you that no one has the track booked, someone lied to you.

We presold 85 condos of the 120. The last 35 are set to be released at a date to be announced in Feb.

Nah, used grease from the deep frier and run off from the grill.

Tom, are you working on getting a date for this?

I keep looking for signs on the interstate as I go by but nothing yet.

There will be no restrictions on the type of cars/fuel allowed on the race track (except for Jody).

Jody will be required to run E100. His gear oil must be all natural and must be available for purchase at any Bath and Body Works store. He will also be required to run water in his cooling system that is from a melted glacier. Sorry Jody but rules are rules :-)

On a serious note...
There will be incentives to operate low emission/alternative fuel vehicles , such as a free track day on Arbor Day, etc. Many other details on the green program soon to follow.

Now, that's funny, right there!

Sam, I heard Richard Branson (Virgin Airlines, Records, etc.) was getting involved someway or another with HighRock because of the green theme, can you confirm that.

BTW, congratulations on your new deal.

Where does the line form to book? You are a green track because you are closer to me and save me burning fossil fuel going to CMP, Road Atlanta and Roebling!

Yes Jody, we have an official partnership with Virgin Charter, owned by Richard Branson. They will be the official private jet service of High Rock Raceway.

We are taking names for 2009 reservations. We expect to be open in October 2008 but will not take any reservations for 2008 until we have paving underway in July/Aug. We are doing this because we do not want to make reservations and not be able to follow through on them if we run into delays.
