Rack and Pinion Boot
So, there's a spring clip at one end of the boot, and a "boot clamp" on the other end. You need to cut the boot clamp to pull the boot back. I don't have the magic crimp tool J22610, nor another clamp.
What can I use? A regular hose clamp? A zip-tie? My goal is not to hurt the boot during this process and I don't plan to pull the inner tie rod from the rack...

Melting Slicks
i had to replace the inner tie rod last year.
i vaguely remember what you're talking about. I didnt use any special tools, yet somehow managed to get the new boot clamp on there.
however, im sure a regular old hose clamp would be a lot easier. i remember cursing a lot.

It's hard enough trying to figure out how to get into the tiny little area to snip the old clamp off. There really is no room to work there...
Nobody has used something other than the prescribed boot clamp?

On all my racecars I've used zip ties any time I've had to remove the factory clamps. Its just a boot for the rack. If you're worried you could use a hose clamp, but its not necessary.
