Default 08 c6: what wheels for track use?

I bought my c6 z51 to go to the track.
Found out that there are little to no available R compound tie to fit the OEM WHEELS.

What wheels should I be considering?

These will be for HPDE's- not wanting to spend a lot of money for track wheels.

I hear 18's all around are good?

What are other using for wheels?

thanks!

Good luck....this is one of the crappiest things about tracking a C6 in my opinion. Hardly any good R-comps for the stock wheels, and hard to get 18" tires with the right f/r diameters to keep the TC and AH from going haywire. Big problem is finding a 18" tire in the rear that is as big in diameter as the stock 285/35-19. It is a tall setup.

My top choices are:
1. Toyo R888 on stock sized wheels (255/35-18F and 295/30-19R) I got repro wheels for <$700 for the set
2. Toyo R888 or RA-1 on CCW C14 (18" all around) with 275/35-18F and 305/35-18R. CCW's are $2600+ set

Some folks get a pair of stock 18" front wheels widened to 10.5" and run them on the back as well.

I gave up and am just going to run my stock wheels with stock sized Nitto Invo's for now. Bought headers with my meager track tire budget anyhow

I have C14s with 18x11 front and rear on my C6. Thinking an 18x12 would have fit in the back...

I'm running C14s 18x11 front and 18x12 rear (315 and 335) with great results - should work on the C6 too with the correct offsets.

Shouldn't. We're keeping the same backspacing as the 18x11 so it'll just move the rim outward. And my 18x11 fronts clear the control arm just fine.

C5Z06 rims, 18x10.5 all around. Plenty of good tires available. $200 each, more or less

David,
What size tires do you run on those C5 Z06 rear wheels to keep the diameters close enough to stock C6 size so that the stability management computer stays happy? 275/35-18F/305/35-18R?

I have been searching for a while to find a pic of that setup in the rear to see how much it sticks out past the fender. Don't suppose you happen to have a link or picture with yours setup this way?

I'm running the C5Z Speedline 18x10.5 front and rear on my Z51. I have Toyo RA1s on them. I am told I can run 305 front and rear but I chose to run the 275 in front. I intend to swap the 305s to the front just to see if they rub but I like the current setup. One word of caution ..... well a few more than one but you get the point ..... Don't run this combo if the car is lowered. The rears will rub.

The following is hearsay from other C6 drivers at the track:

Going with anything other than 18 front and 19 rear can mess up AH and TC. AH and TC are never fully disabled even when you think you turned both off because they are part of the same system as ABS. People using 18s all around end up having problems, such as AH applying the rear brakes for no reason.

Then again, several people here drive all 18s, so I'm not sure what to believe.

If the OD from front to rear maintains the same overall size ratio as the stock setup it is just fine.

That may be so for those running AH and TC but I don't. I have never seen anything about AH and TC still being passively active when shut off and, again, I have not experienced anything untoward yet. I think they run the same setup on all the vettes at Spring Mountain. I was pitted next to Janet last week, I should have asked her if that was correct or just rumor.

Here's some in car video from a couple weeks ago running this wheel/tire setup. BTW, I ran my fastest lap times of 1:34:05 probably dropping a full 3 seconds or more off my best with the OEM wheels/tires:

Obviously the right way to go if you want to spend upwards of $2,500 for a set of track wheels. I use my track wheels maybe 8-10 days a year. I prefer to use that money elsewhere. I picked up a set of brand new Speedlines from Bob at House of Wheels for $880 to my door. Lighter than my OEM chromies too. But, to each his own. YMMV.

I have the CCW Corsair, 18x10 front and 18x11 rear, with Toyo Ra1's with TPS.

They have two track days on the set. Went to a different track car. If interested, Pm me.

Default THanks-- but still a couple of questions

Great info and help-- thank you all.

Like some others-- I really don't want to spend $3-4K for a set of track only wheels. If I'm spending big bucks on wheels- they'll be on the car a lot-- but track wheels are only on the car for 8-10 days a year. Really bummed that stock wheels won't work-- unless the Toyo R888 is a reasonable track tire?

I noticed the Overall diameter of Toyo 295/30-19 is 26 inches- vs. stock OD of 26.9 inches? Will this fould up the car's computer? If I shut the active handling system off will things be ok?

Pardon my ignorance on this subject (have lots of wheel to wheel but very little TD or HPDE experience), why not get Hoosier A6s in sizes that fit the stock C6 Z51 wheels:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....osier&model=A6

Tire Rack has 295/30ZR19 rears and several sizes for the front (245/40ZR18, 275/35ZR18 or 285/30ZR18).

They also have R6 in similiar sizes:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....osier&model=R6

Prices aren't really outrageous either.

What am I missing here ???
