Thanks for all the good advice here, first HPDE completed
I haven't been lurking in this forum very long, but the advice I got here was dead on about the brakes, rotors, and brake fluid, even for a first timer like me. I just completed a two day Driver's Edge training event at Motorsports Ranch near Ft. Worth, Texas. I think I got nearly 4 hours track time, including a few laps on a damp track. The NAPA rotors, ATE Blue brake fluid and XP8 pads all worked perfectly, even with the thrashing I asked my instructor to administer. Can't wait to pull the pads and see how much wear they have. The rotors look fine, but the stock run flats definitely took a beating.
I had a great instructor with Corvette experience who really knew how to get the most out of the car.....and who put up with me for 4 hours. I can highly recommend any Corvette owner to sign up for a driving school if you can. Even us old drag racers can learn something new and learn a whole new way to enjoy our cars.

I'm pulling out the XP8 pads this morning to see how much damage I did in only 3 hours of hard (for me) driving.
Edit after checking pads (in my pajamas so as not to wake up the owner of this little car)....not a good sign....pads hardly worn at all. I am not the brake abuser I thought I was. Even the tires look great. So next time......throttle longer....brake harder....throttle longer....brake harder.....buy more pads.....small price to pay to.....throttle longer....brake harder....throttle longer......brake harder......

I can't stop watching the Youtube video of Lou testing tires at Motorsports Ranch now, same course, same direction as we were doing last weekend. Every turn, entry, track out point I can appreciate now.

This is going to become a serious problem for me.

Yep it starts out all innocent - take the car to a DE.
Next thing you know you have a dedicated track car, trailer, haul truck, sets of tires......
And then you find yourself hooked on CF Autocrossing & Roadracing forum. And you start searching the internet for stuff you really need to buy.
One of the best bangs for the buck is seat time. Your C6 Z51 is much more capable than you are at this point. Your brakes will last you quite a while. Maybe a different set of tires so you can keep the run flats for trips. You can get some more grip with non-runflat tires.
See you at the track.

You will soon be thinking about every curve as an entry, apex and exit...even in Midland...

I find myself doing that all the time.
Unfortunately we have really long straights out here
Hey varkwso, sounds like you are familiar with Midland. Not too many people know where the Permian Basin is.

My Dad was in the Prosthetics and Orthotics business in Lubbock, ABQ and El Paso - we had good friends in Midland. I also have an undergrad degree in Geology....
