Default Track tires

OK, I registered with Chin Motorsports for the April driving event at Sebring in my Porsche with Ginny. My question is, I would like to take the C6 also (I'm on the wait list for it), but since I only have the Goodyear runflats, I'm a little concerned with the tread depth I have left. I realize track tires are the way to go, but the budget won't allow me to buy any right now. How much tread depth should I have to be safe? Also, anyone have a helmet or two for sale?? Thanks, Kevin

I posted a very similar thread a month or so ago before I went to Road Atlanta with my nearly bald Goodyears on my C5 Z. Lots of good info in there. I had a problem putting the power to the ground on corner exit, but that was probably due more to the age of the tires than the tread. Other than that they worked just fine.

Three years ago I ran Pocono north course HPDE in my 2000 C5. Did eight 20 minutes sessions. Had new Kumho MXs on the front and EMT with about 1/16" above wear bars. At the end of the program I could barely see the circumferential grooves. I figure just about a full 1/8" was removed in 120 miles.
Tires never stopped squealing! Great fun.

You mean like this?

BTW Chris, this was one of your old tires. I got 6 or 8 months out of it after you finished with it.

We have 7 Kumho 710 take-offs from the runoffs and pocono. $300 for a set of 4 or $75 each for the remaining + shipping costs. Sizes are 315/35 x 17.
I also have 2 sets of Kumho 710 245.35 x 18 that are New, $ 920 a set + shipping.

Completely different philosophy here: I prefer life to death and respect the safety of of others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys must be the same ones that show up at the track with cars duct taped together.

In CA, you cannot get on the track unless you pass a technical inspection. Your car will FAIL the technical inspection if you do not have a reasonable amount of tread on all cars.

Tires with reasonable tread are critical to car control, and car control is critical to safety and good driving. You should NOT be "sliding around" at 150mph on the track.

Not trying to be a ninny here, but the other posts are actually dangerous!
