Default Racing seats and harness- which one ?

I am planning on doing race track road courses and I am considering buying a seat and harness. I am 6 feet 2 inches tall and 200 lbs. Which seat do you recommend? Why? Where would you suggest buying it from?

A lot depends if you are willing to swap race/stock seats in and out for specific events vs. wanting 1 seat to "do it all". I swap and have Kirkey Deluxe Road Race seats in 17" width with Hardbar rails. For the track, these are no compromise, great, comfortable (and lightweight) seats but you wouldn't want them for road due to ingress/egress difficulties.

Forgot to mention: 6'4" 225 lbs

I am 6-2 195. Ultra-shield Deluxe Pro road race and hard bar seat rails

The Kirkey and Ultra-Shields are very very close in design and style. either one would be a great choice

Is there much of a difference between the Kirkey Deluxe and the Kirkey Intermediate seats? Or the Ultrashield Deluxe and the Ultrashield Pro Road Race seats? It looks like the Deluxe seats are about double the price of their cheaper cousins, are they worth the extra money? I'm not racing, just doing a half dozen track events each year.

Thanks.

I think the mounts may be different check the drawings they have on the Kirkey site, One is lighter.

I wouldn't want to be in the Intermediate in a wreck. They use .100 aluminum in that one vs .250 in the Deluxe. I'd be concerned the Intermediate would tear at the mounting points or deform significantly in a bad wreck. Get the stronger seat.

print the shop drawing and you will see the differences deluxe has mounts, is deeper in height and length. Deluxe would be easier to sell later if you want to even though it cost more initially. If it is thicker as Tom said it will be better.

Looking at the Ultra-shield web site, the Pro is .125 thick and sells for $245 and the Deluxe can be ordered in either .100 or .080 thick and sells for $484. So the Deluxe is thinner, hopefully it's built stronger?

From the Kirkey web site the Intermediate (series 47) is .125 thick and sells for $250 where the Deluxe (series 43) doesn't list the thickness but it weighs almost 2 lbs more and sells for $595. Maybe we can assume it's thicker since it's heavier. Has anyone seen any of these seats side by side and can give us an opinion?

Thanks.

So what's wrong with the Deluxe? The Deluxe's are in my current price range for a seat. What does it take to mount them? Do I want 10 degrees or 20 degrees of layback?

Think most go with 20 degrees. They are very comfortable with the seat covers Kirkey sells (relatively speaking - comfortable on the track).

most are 20* I could drive many miles on the seat with it. HardbarUSA makes a kit. Cover is durable and pops on and off very easy.

http://www.soloperformance.com/Seats_c_30.html has some with free shipping.

The degree sign can be added by having num lock on and holding down the right alt key while pressing 0176 on the key pad. Like this °. 20°

I meant the PROS. Anything wrong with the PROS?

Thanks for the tip on "°". That would have saved me 2 key strokes each time I typed degrees.

I don't know about the Ultra's.

Having just purchased two Kirkey's I can state that the Kirkey deluxe is heavier aluminum, has added strengthening channels that are welded to prevent cracking, and a lower mounting flange which the intermediate does not have.

They are VERY strong and beautifully manufactured.

I am in the market for a new seat and I am thinking about the Kirkey deluxe RR seat. I have a Sparco EVO that is too short for me when I wear the R3 device. I would really like to sit in a Kirkry deluxe RR before bitting the bullet but haven't found a dealer in the Charlotte area.

Anybody in the Charlotte have one in a C5?

Thanks,

Phil
