Default Best place/price to get Toyo R888?

I can't find a place that has good prices, certainly relative to the old RA1's. Can anyone point me to a reputable vendor who has a good price? I'm looking for 275/35/18 and 305/35/18.

Thanks!

The R888 pricing seems the same about everywhere I look. The guys at CCW carry them and seem to have a reasonable price, depending on shipping.

I called John at CCW and he told me to call some place in Illinois. I wrote the number down wrong, so I gave up. I guess CCW doesn't want to just sell you the tires if you're also not buying wheels?

I haven't heard/seen that from CCW. Although the recent rumors are that John isn't overly pleased with the R888 due to it slipping on the rims?

The RA-1's slip also Mark your tires at the valve stem and you would be surprised. I have at least one tire move every race.

Well, I just gave up trying to find the 'best' deal and ordered them from tiredeals4less.com. They are a supporting vendor. I used a promo code they advertised on this site a while ago and got 2 275/35/18 and 2 305/35/18 Toyo R888's for $1425 shipped. I don't think I got screwed, but I'm sure I could have found a better deal if I waited long enough. Oh well.

Race tires are damn expensive nowadays....

Bob Woodman Tire - Specializes in race tires. Carries the RA1 and 888. Can shave and heat-cycle if needed. Competitive with anyone in the SE.

Just checked Frisby's prices and it look like you did pretty good especially if the price you listed included shipping.
Frisby price for the R888 is 1,438.
their price for RA1's is 1,288
+ ~$100 shipping
You are going to love the car with the R888 compared to stock. It is a world of difference.
I liked my RA1 so well that I ended up driving on the street with them all last year.

What wheels did you get? Sizes?

I bought TTRotary's 'old' wheels which are modified 2000 C5 wheels. 18x9.5 and 18x10.5. Yeah, my price included shipping, so I guess I did okay, but it is still a lot of cheese for tires that are going to get trashed at Eagle's Canyon at the end of this month.

Have you used the Toyos before? If you are easy on them for the first few sessions( or if you have them shaved), they will last a longtime. If you run them hard at full tread depth in high ambient heat you can use alot of the rubber though. I would think you will get at least 6 and probably 8 track days and as many autocrosses as you can do out of them.

No, I haven't run Toyos before. Thank you for the advice as I am buying them at full depth. I will be easy on them the first couple sessions to get a couple heat cycles in them and shave them down a bit.

I've got quite a bit of experience with RA-1s, and you'll love them on the track (assuming the R888s are similar in compound).

If the tires have never been run, then I'd dial it back about 10-20% for the first day; heat cycles usually need the tire to cool down for several hours. After that first day, have at it!

I've never had mine shaved and never had a problem with them chunking. As far as tire pressures go, aim for around 38 psi hot; over 40 and they'll start sliding and get that "greasy" feeling.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Just FYI ... RA1's come at 8/32" thread depth and 888's come at 6/32".

Just throw them on the car as soon as you get them and go do some running around town. Come out and AX on them, you will be amazed.

Toyo is giving NASA members a $100.00 rebate on a set of Toyo R1R's (smaller cars) or Toyo 888's now thru mid-June.
NASA membership is like $40.00 / yr.
