Default Racing Pedals in a C 4 ('90)

I am interested in racing pedals or modification of my stock pedals. Heel/toe method is difficult , at best. I have looked in the search results, and saw a few modifications, including wood and rubber fastened on the gas pedal.
1. What brands of pedals do you C 4 racers use?, and where did you get them?
2. Did a spacer for the gas pedal come with the set?
3. If I buy new rubber pedal pads, are they soft and provide good traction?
4. What other suggestions does anyone have?
Since the weather still sucks over most of the country this weekend, maybe we'll have a good discussion.
Thanks
