Default Suspension advice needed - '85 C4

Hi all,

I've got a 1985 C4 NON-Z51. I live in England so BUMPY roads are the norm... I find the car quite "Jittery" at the moment on these kind of roads, as if its riding along the top of the bumps?

The car has lowering bolts on the rear but other than that its standard. I'm looking to get a set of SPAX adjustable shocks as these are availible in the UK and I've no idea how old mine are... car is at 96k miles.

This is a road car but i have booked into a few trackdays so far this year and I hope that I can do maybe 8-10 through the year.

I want to know what I can do to improve the handling while on a budget - alignment settings? shock settings? I guess then its onto Springs/ARB's etc but I can imagin they may well be out of my budget.

I didn't get to many track days last year as I seemed to have spent all my money on other bits for the car, this year I want to get out there and have some fun!

Castle Coombe is already booked as is Silverstone.

I should say that I also don't feel very confident with this car, its hard to find the limit - maybe becuase its so high?

Theres a corner that I can take at around 110mph but at that point I just don't know if I could go faster or not. I get the impression that it could just break away. I'd love it to feel more planted.

16" or 17" wheels? If you have the 16's, buy some used 17 x 9.5 wheels and mount the stickiest tires you get over there. That is going to be your best "bang for the buck" The new shocks don't sound like a bad idea.

Any tips on the adjustable shocks? do I start at one of the scale and work down? How will I know if there too soft/hard?

if you are looking for budget forget adjustable shocks. Get some Bilsteins from DRM or LGM. Shock is meant to keep tire on the ground. Wrong compression or rebound will not keep the tires on the ground. When did the C4 get to the UK? How much for track days over there? Thanks!

I was with the Kumho tire engineers yesterday and they thought 2.5 negative camber in the front and maybe 3.0 negative in the rear would be correct for the V710. At least it's a good start.

They also suggested that you start your tire pressures at around 28 psi. You want between 35 and 40 psi hot. Check them right after you come in off the track.

Im going for the adjustables purely as they are availible off the shelf in the UK - anything else must be imported then there's shipping + duty.
