Default Jackie Stewart as Yoda (teacher)

Someone posted a link to this up on the NER mailing list.

They had some nice things to say about him:
Ed,

I agree JS is not only the most important F1 driver of the modern era, but a good guy. Couldn't believe that free magazine that came with the SCCA book touting Francitti as the best Scotch race driver since Clark......

Subject: Re: [NER Solo] Jackie Stewart teaches us things we always
should remember about driving

One of the Montreal GP's i went up to, maybe '95 or '96, I was at a
party at the Intercontintal-Ritz, and Gerhard Berger stopped in along
with Jackie.

He talked with the crowd for a few minutes, and then actually took
10-15 minutes to sign a few autographs while Berger scampered away
out a back door as most Austrians would do. You could tell Jackie
needed to go to some other function, but darn if he didn't stay and
sign every single paper or picture put in front of him and with a
smile and "thank you" or "you're welcome". I got the last signature
of the night from him on my event phamphlet. (Yes, I still have it.
No, you can't buy it.)

Since I was a kid, I have always held him in very high regard and
figured I would never get to meet someone of his caliber. I've met a
few big-shots here and there in my life, but Jackie is the only
person I have ever met that made me so nervous I was literally
shaking in my shoes. And my wife will vouch for my rubbery ankles
that night!

Well after the race was over, my wife and I were walking along the
backside access road behind the pit garages, and a F&R truck came
idling by with a half-dozen fire crew in the back section. Jackie was
planted right in the middle of them, plaid hat and all, chatting and
swapping stories with the rescue guys that they will be able to tell
their grandkids some day, and maybe keep those kids in a bit of awe,
as well.

Love the tea-break sunglasses.
My .02 - Jimmy Clark was god, Jackie was quick.
Thanks for the post!

That was great stuff. At the end of the day he was still 8 seconds slower than Jackie's first (?) lap.
