Default Rotor replacement test

I believe conventional wisdom is that if you can hang up a fingernail on a crack then it is time to replace the rotor?

Anything new or higher tech?

thanks

I am a little more conservative than the other posters. Rotors are cheap - and to push them too long is not safe. I saw a C-5 disintegrate a front rotor at VIR last year and it was not pretty !!! Fronts last 2 maybe 3 weekends before discard depending on which track is run - rears 1-2 days longer. They go to the recycler when the first heat check crack gets within 1/8" of the edge of the rotor.
