Default Cool Video: Game Sim

I was looking for something on YT and came across this video. I thought that it was too cool not to share. I'm thinking about building something like it. This guy has some nice heel/toe work.

...
Don't bother, it's pretend gear shifting and pointless heel-and-toe...
The gear lever goes into gear without clutch anyway. The car balance does not get upset on downshifts, there is no car damage simulation, etc.
Too much money for a system like that IMHO.

Get these (about 5 times cheaper):
1. Xbox 360
2. Forza Motorsport 2
3. Microsoft racing wheel
4. Display 720p and 6 channels sound, I guess you already have

For a racing simulator the software is the most important. Forza2 is great.

and if you got the $$$ even this:

Forza Motorsport 2, important.

It has a very good physics engine, full car tuning, tires and fuel simulation, full parts upgrading, aerodynamic tuning and more.

The tracks are the most accurate compared with any other game. They are built using precise GPS data collecting on the real track, including vertical GPS data.

What do you think it is missing to be a real racing simulator?

Good Video

I had to think for a bit what track that was? Then between T6-T7 I realized it was Road Atlanta, for the most part.

The track elevation changes would or should be more dramatic, and t1 through esses, T2 though T5, dropipng down to T10 and up OVER the hill and drop down to T12.

That's the way that I feel about Road America. They can never seem to get the elevation changes right.

The OP video is not done on a Forza2 simulator. I will post a video soon, I am very curious if they have done it right.

Great, now there is a way to compare, thank you. The elevations seem bigger in the real video.

Not to argue, but I have to provide a similar camera view. Could not find a hood view for one lap, but I will.

Lets put it this way, when you pass under the bridge and decend down the hill, between t11 and T12, in real life you can not see the pavement in front of your car. You just have to know where the track is or follow the top of a car in front of you and hope they know were the track is

PS and I hate when a game changes from a cockpit view to watching the side view of your car. That just drives me

No comment, you have drove there and I have not.

The view/camera change is only in the replays, actually in poorly done replays. When you actually drive the camera stays as you wish all the time.

The driving physics on this car seem all arcadish to me. It reminds me of some old video games that I have. Maybe it's just the view. I hate it when it's not the view from the drivers seat.

It is the view and also it is an old car.

GT5 Prologue came out this week....about to go pick it up and try it out.

I posted a while back about how bad I am at driving games due to a lack of input.

I found one of the games at an arcade hooked upto a free hanging 360 degree simulator. Played the same game, same car, same track, WAY faster in the simulator than with just the dead seat and wheel.

From what I've read the PRO mode in GT5 is very accurate...find out in a bit.

Accurate enough that if you crash your virtual race car, your GT5 race program crashes, your computer crashes, and empties your bank account in the attempt to repair everything?

Consoles have better graphics, PC has ten times better simulation. Even better than Forza. The G25 racing wheel is awesome, and you can make the shifts real where you will spin if not done properly.

But it defeats the purpose of you want a sim and keep all the aids on.

It used to be that the PC programs had much better simulation. Some PC programs maintain a lead over the consoles, but that won't stay for long. It's about money and the consoles make much more $$$ these days. Also it the copy protection of the games, which attracts all game studios.

Good point about the aids. I drive the sim with all the driving aids off.

Forza is a good game, but it's not even close to the simulation of GTR2, rFactor, Race 07, GT Legends etc. And you can tell from the first time you take a turn, there are far more accessories for PC as well. That simple Xbox unit doesnt compare to a G25.

Console games a much more mainstream, they are made for the general public, so even noobs can enjoy. You can actually go faster with traction control. PC games are 10x closer to the real deal you can feel that you are cornering faster without the TC. There is honestly no comparison in the simulation aspect.

Do you have any official numbers on who's selling more, there are far too many sim leagues for GTR2, rFactor, GTLegends, Race 07 etc for for the Xbox games to compete with and PS3 doesnt have much going for it right now until GT5 comes out.
