PICTORIAL...HANS Device Upgrade to Sliding Tether in less than Five Minutes
Here's a Pictorial on how easy it is to upgrade to the sliding tether on the HANS. I posted this more to show how simple it is in case people were unsure what was involved. It's pretty self explanatory even without instructions.
Like everything else from HANS, the upgrade kit is amazingly pricey.
Not shown are the larger washers already installed on the Helmet.
Unscrew the old brackets holding on the separate tethers.
The strap slides out of the pre-existing slots once the bracket is removed.
Once the two old straps are removed the slots are no longer needed.
Lie the new one piece tether across the back of the HANS.
Secure the new orange anchors utilizing the same pre-existing holes.
Don't forget to use thread-locker on the reinstall. DO NOT OVER_TIGHTEN!
Tether now slides effortlessly.
Ready to race!
For Helmet Anchors:
Remove Existing HANS anchors from helmet.
Discard old nut-washer, save and re-use other parts.
Reinstall Hans anchors with new, larger nut-washers.
Thread-locker must be used on re-installation.
See ya at the track!

John,
At least with fixed tethers if you turned your head L/R you might feel the disconnection. How would you know you accidentally pulled the QR with sliding tethers? It is known that inadvertant QR happens.

Good point it only happen once when I get in and ready I double check they are not trapped under my belts and get pulled. It is easy to put the helmet and HANS on together. Which I first saw in F-1 with Barachello (sp?)
