Helmet advice with Sunglasses
I have prescription sunglasses that I basically live in, and would like to wear them for my DE's and Autox as well. I have been using a friend's helmet for my last few events (full face) and it is an adventure getting the glasses into a useable position. It is not a size issue as the helmet I have been using is honestly a touch big.
So I am wondering if there are specific models of helmets that give you slots or space to wear glasses, or if I am going to have to go with a tinted shield of some sort and wear regular glasses as they are less bulky. It is a lot easier IMO to keep your sunglasses scratch free that it is a shield
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Fej

I've never seen a helmet that had any reliefs built into the padding for eyeglasses. My Bell helmet works OK with sunglasses for autox, but I imagine during a 20 minute DE it could get uncomfortable.
What we need is prescription visors!!
HTH, and have a good one,

I think that the M3 has been replaced by the latest version M4.
When I buy my next helmit, it'll be the M4.
I've also crash tested Bell helmits, upside down in an open wheel. Bell's all I'll wear.

My Simpson helmet works fine with Rayban sunglasses. They slide right in.

I'm on my second M3, Bell is the best (for me anyway). I put on glasses everytime with no problem, can't even feel them when they're on.

You want a Simpson Super Voyager/Voyager. Large eyeport, one of the lighter helmets made, and cheaper than the Arai or Sparcos.
I bought the super bandit 1st, and the super voyager blows it away for closed cockpit cars.

Thanks for the advice guys, part of my problem is that they are oakley wire framed sunglasses, and the "arms" are on a little arc. Fortunately they are straight and not bent behind the ear as I would have no chance then.
I am going to check out the Oakley store near me to see if there are some other options on the arms, and look into the bell and simpson helmets. Thanks for the info.

Or prescription windshield.....
I have a Bell SR Pro. It is full face but with an open and large eye port. No face shield. My glasses have the hooked ears and I have to take my time but they do slide in confortably. I also have a Bolle pair with a prescription insert that clicks inside the regular sun glasses. These have straight ears but are made from a rubber compound and so I have to spit on them to slide in. They are comfortable also and I ususally wear these.

Why not take the helmet with you to where they have a wide selection of sunglasses and try some on while you are wearing the helmet??
Oakleys are nice, but if you really need some shades for track days, then try some cheaper ones and keep the Oakleys for everything else.
It might also be time for you to get your own helmet. That way you don't have to borrow one and you will have a nice SA2005 helmet. You might also want to consider an open-face helmet design. That makes it much easier to handle glasses. I wear prescription glasses and have a pair of prescription sunglasses. I have a Bell Mag-4 open-face helmet and I can easily swap glasses with the helmet on.
Some people prefer the full-face for HPDE/track days but sometimes an open-face helmet makes it easier dealing with glasses.

For low speed autox & HPDE in a closed car why use a full face helmet?
For open cars & motorcycles yes.
Open face= cooler/lighter/better peripheral vision/cheaper.

I use a Bell M4 (full face) and it has plenty of room for glasses. I also use a Bell M4 Pro (full face) and a Bell Mag 5 (open face) at work and have no issues with glasses on either of those. I think a couple of places let you send back the helmet if it doesn't fit right and exchange it for another so you might look into that and give a couple a try.

Just do what I did -- have Lasik done and throw the prescription glasses away. Then you can use a tinted shield, or cheap sunglasses, and everything is fine. I opt for the cheap sunglasses when I need them. If they get messed up, no problem. I've got 10 more pair laying around I can mess up.
I know the FDA is holding hearings on Lasik, but it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I had really thick glasses, and now 20/20. Yeah, I had a little dry eye at first, but I'd trade that for coke-bottle-bottom glasses any day of the week.

I never wear glasses other then grinding, shooting and ice racing. I hate wearing eyes it gets in the way of my 20/20 vision. I use a Bell wide eyeport helment. It works very good.
