My Nitto RII experience
Well guys, I got out to the track on Tuesday and it was my first time running with R-compound tires and all I have to say is WOW. A lot of you helped me decide on which tires to get and these are just incredible. It was around 55 degrees out and it took me 2 laps to get them warmed up but I'm sure they will stick even better on a warmer day. I found they were really forgiving on a couple corners where I turned in a bit late and compensated by turning in harder then I should have to hold the line I wanted and it just stuck. It was my first track day of the season and first time on the RII's. I look forward to the next few events where I get to experience more. What a difference from the Yokohama and Pirelli street tires Ive used in the past.

Glad you had fun!
One hint for the Nittos. Nitto is owned by Toyo, and the Toyo RA-1s are made from the same compound as the Nittos. The RA-1s don't like tire pressures above 40 psi; you'll know it when they start getting "greasy", sliding when the previous lap at the same corner at the same speed they gripped. I found the sweet spot to be around 38 psi hot.
Something to think about.
Have a good one,
Mike

I really like the NT01s also... not as fast as above but much longer track life and you can drive it to the track if you want...

p.s if you need to, how do you guys refill nitrogen at the track? Im not worried about losing tire pressure, thinking more for adjustments
Im not sure how long these tires will last me, but if I were to go to a full comp tire my raceshop has told me the A6's are actually the fastest tire for roadcourses even over the R6. I was going to go with the NT01's but they didnt have the rear size I was looking for. On an 18" wheel I could only pick a 275 or a 315. What I wanted was a 305, so I went wiht the RII's. I ran painters tape under the fenders to see if I was rubbing at all with the this set up and there was no contact under my driving conditions. I didnt do a full lock on a turn so not sure about that.
