Default NCM and Chin at VIR

Who's doing both the NCM and Chin events at VIR June 30 - July 3?

Chin just opened their registration and it's filling up fast:

I missed the NCM event registration by 15 minutes. However, I jumped on the CHIN at 9:01 PM central. Actually, I did the two back to back last year since it is a long haul from Nashville. I got tired the last day. I am good for 2, maybe 3 days and then I am ready for another track. A younger person would probably want another week there.

I'll be participating in both events - lots of track time at VIR!

sounds like fun, but I'm doing the PCA event at Lowes the Friday/Saturday following the NCM, so 3 events in a week would be too much for me. I haven't run Lowes since 2001, so I really want to do that one (plus it's 4 miles from the new home)

What is the Lowes layout like? I have it marked on my calendar to maybe do, but there is a VIR that same week. I thought it would be cool to do that track at least once as I don't see a lot of events going on there.

I'll be there for all 4 days. Never been to VIR before but everyone says it's one of those tracks that you have to run. Looks like it sets up well for a Corvette too. See you all there.

I can never get enough of VIR - full course, grand east course, north course and south course - bring 'em on! Simply one of the best places to go. I even rate it above Watkins Glen - and that's an awesome track/location.

I love Lowes, my favorite RoVal. The infield has some camber in most of the corners, and it has a nice flow to it. The transition to the oval is rough until you learn the right attack angle.

I'm confirmed on Friday, but hope to be able to instruct both days since I'm so close. Car Guys also has an event scheduled at Lowes, in August I think. These are the only 2 Lowes events I know of this year.

I did all 5 days last year. Skipping Lowes this year. 5 was a bit much and am not wild about the "roval". Also had issues with my active handling in the last turn on the oval. Didn't like it and almost scared the crap out of me applying brake and retarding throttle when I was doing 150 mph through the corner.

I'm in Chin... Since I haven't run with Chin before, they have me "tagged" with an instructor... So one of you guys could get a ride with me if you'd like...

I'll need a sign-off at somepoint, sooner rather than later...

They did the same thing to me for the June Road Atlanta even though I have like 4 events there. But I am glad they are doing and event there.

More and more events are requiring check instructors and check rides - even for the "experienced". It is really for everyones safety. I have seen some of the Panoz "Solo Qualified" at Road Atlanta and a national Cobra (not Mustang) club "certified solo" at VIR. I know why, if you are unknown to the org, you get a ride along.

Many orgs are also really working on the "quality" of their instructors - NCM, Chin, and NASA-SE.

The Chin check instructors are really tough by the way...

I see the event is up to $550 now ... I wonder what the threshold price will be? This makes for an expensive couple of days compared to other events.

Mark contacted me today and gave me the bump to intermediate solo without instructor, which I'm happy with. I gave them the full resume and a clip of my most recent solo outting there with PCA in their white run group...Guess that helped...
