Choosing Between Tekonsha Brake Controllers
I'm towing an open trailer with a Suburban. I'm about to buy one of these two. The Prodigy has come highly recommended, but I have also come across the P-3. I'm not sure if it's a newer version of the Prodigy or if it is an entirely different model.
Anybody have experience with the P-3?
Here's links to both.

The P-3 will handle electric-over-hydraulic systems as well as the standard electric brakes 99% of all car trailers have. Go with the Prodigy and save $40.

I have a Prodigy and have had no problems with it. Just plug it in and go. What year is your Suburban? I'm selling my pickup and will remove the Prodigy from the truck before it goes.

I have the Prodigy and it seems to work well. It came highly recommended by a number of people who tow horse trailers.
Tekonsha has pre-wired connector cables for different makes of vehicles, unless you truck is the year where GM did away with the harness connector and just has ends of wires so that you have to splice everything yourself.
Make sure that you have the 40A fuse installed in the underhood fusebox so that the 12v power lead in the trailer harness will be hot.

I went through a couple of controllers before I got the Prodigy. The issue with the other controllers was that they were jerky in stop and go traffic, whereas the Prodigy is super smooth. The only reason I am not using it anymore is my 07 Silverado 2500 came with the brake controller integrated into the dash from the factory. I was actually worried that it might not work as well as the Prodigy, but it does.

As mentioned, some controllers are very jerky - particularly in stop and go type traffic. The prodigy has almost completely overcome that issue. If you have multiple trailers you just have to remember to press the button to adjust for the weight setting. If it is set for a trailer much heavier then your truck and your only pulling a little trailer with strong brakes it will give you a pretty good yank!!

I appreciate the responses about the Prodigy. I had asked about brake controllers once before and found it to be the most popular. I'm also interested in experiences with the P3.
If it's the Prodigy (only with more options and a newer look) then I may just spend a few extra bucks to get it.
Any other P3 users?
