Filling a toolbox for the track, what do I bring??
Hi all, I want to put a useful toolbox together. What do you bring and why? i.e what size sockets? wrenches? for what? what typically would you need them for. I dont want to bring a huge box as I drive to my events and the car is pretty full.
Thanks
Steve

it never fails that the only thing i dont take is what i need!! my list usually includes : general tools ie .. socket set, wrenches, 2 cresent wrenches, vise grips, wire cutters ,zipties , fuses(( cordles drill/sawzall, pop rivet and rivet gun,for major mishaps)) 1/4 clear plastic tube for bleading brakes ,hose clamps,hamer,21mm for caliper bolts.. racers tape......how ever i have seen those cheap automotive tool sets at superstores that have an amasing assortment in a small case i got one for my boat and it did the job ,, not the best quality but in a pinch they worked great!!!!

Don't forget brake fluid and an extra set of rotors and pads. It sucks to have a weekend killed because of an early cracked rotor. I can't tell you the number of times my spare rotors have saved someone's weekend.

Currently I bring;
fluids (EO, clutch/brake, PS)pads
now (need to bring clamps), never thought about the serp belt. helpful tip, thanks.
I guess I could always pick up a set of cheap (emergency) rotors as well
Keep this going as its already helping me.

You need to bring those tools you need to do a brake job with. If you bring a serpentine belt you need a 15mm wrench. Bring your oil, brake fluid, power steering. Pads and rotors.
I can do brake work or change a belt. If I had to get into fixing my car more than that I would put it on the trailer and call it a day. I am trying to cut back on what I bring to help with fuel economy.

I know what you mean. I usually bring a pretty good assortment of tools and supplies (extra oil, everything for a brake change, a set of wrenchs, torque wrench,...), but at my last HPDE an exhaust flange gasket failed resulting in a huge exhaust leak right at head .
Thankfully, I was able to get a new gasket and saved the last half of the day.

Black car = Black duct tape.
Some other items:
extra lug nuts
zip ties
Windex and paper towels
The more you track your car the more you bring
Trailer size is direct relation to the junk you bring.

Then is a large storage box with spare fluids, extra pads (no rotors, but if you bring extra I would say just 1 front would be 95% all you would need), latex gloves, torque wrench & breaker bar, rachet, LED worklight, brake fluid drain bottle, portable impact gun, jacking puck, and more things I can't remember right now, plus a lightweight racing jack.
As others have said you will never have everything you may need but you should have the basics to do normal maintenance & repairs, anything else you will likely be able to borrow from someone.
I think the key is is not to show up with nothing and then try to borrow everything!

Gettreal - tools and know how are pretty easy to access in a paddock. Parts can be little tougher without a good concentration of your type car at the event.

Hey Steve, not sure if you saw all my "stuff" last time? I carry a small tool box with basic hand tools, combination wrenches, some screwdrivers, vise grips, etc.

or bring CASH!
When I started I would pay a guy who rented spec racers to do what I needed.
