thats terrible.

from that article, looks like he had a heart attack at the wheel.

24 hours of lemons is a very low speed race. I was surprised to see this, and really doubted that the accident caused his death.

just goes to show it can happen anywhere and anytime. GET YEARLY PHYSICALS!

Death result of "Heart Attack"...not the accident. Sad, God Bless him.

Jay Lamm the organizer of the 24 Hours of Lemons sent out an email this evening. A fund has been set up for the family of Cour Summerfield the driver who passed away during the event. Jay mentions that the investigation revealed that the car was in working order and the driver appeared to be unconscious prior to impact.

The rules for cages and driver suits had been made much more stringent this year to keep the event safe. I am sure this will be a topic of conversation as we install the cage in our Saab for the July event at CMP.

RIP.

A heart attack can get you anywhere, at least he was doing something he enjoyed doing. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Take care of yourselves gentleman, stay in shape and even still get checked up on.

No to make-light of a sad situation but as Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies used to say, "When I go is up to the good Lord...where I go is up to me." At least he passed doing something he loved.

I am glad to hear that from Jay...

Yep - I am going to start running marathons again, cut back on drinking, and maybe even saturated fats to be prepared for the July event....or maybe I will just go see a doctor....

Let me know if you want to run a marathon, I have a little experience in that area. We can do training runs at Roebling before the track goes green. The doctors are busy with their cars anyway.

I am on 1lapRacer's "Team Saab Story" - I am the designated team anchor....

There are quite a few from the southeast planning for this event - one reason this news hit home so hard (...being 49 myself)

Ray - I will walk it while you lap me at RR - I will even give you point bys as needed...
