Default PS pump?

so I finally found my power steering leak, and the fluid is coming out of the bottom of the power steering pump well at least i found it, but I remember reading on here about a "racing" PS pump, but is it worth it? Or should i just stick on a OE ps pump and be done with it?

Also, I'd like to ad a PS cooler while I'm there. I'm thinking about just buying a z06 cooler but do you all think i should go bigger?

Bigger, been there done it. Installed a Z06 and still heat issues at times. Easier and cheaper to install a bigger aftermarket. Wish I had.

go get a Turn One power steering pump. It is not that expensive and works nice. Also get the Joe Gibbs power steering fluid which Turn One also sells.

I added a PS cooler from a C6 which also helps.

I am kicking myself for not writing down the difference between my setup and the regular setup as far as being cooler. I will have to take the measurements again at the end of the month when we are at pocono.

Plus you don't have to go through the mess again when the stock replacement goes bad. Again. Been there, done that.

Price of the Joe Gibbs fluid is pretty high, correct? Benefit?
Agreed on the turn one setup. Those guys KNOW power steering stuff.

Is the power steering cooler from the C6 significantly better than the one on C5 Z51 & Z06's? I have a Z51 C5 and I'm about to go in and to a head/Cam install and I'm wondering if this is something I should upgrade while I'm in there.

$10 per quart or so. TurnOne recommended it though they are a seller of it so that might have some influence

Product Features:

* A fully synthetic formula power steering fluid.
* Provides improved thermal stability for less pressure drop.
* Offers high temperature foam resistance for better cooling.

Is This The Right Product For My Application?
A fully synthetic oil, Power Steering Fluid is used everywhere from Watkins Glen to Daytona. Designed specifically for racing power steering systems, PSF delivers improved thermal stability across a wide range of operating temperature. PSF's thermal stability provides more consistent steering asist, which improves repeatability. PSF's high temperature foam protection also lowers steering system temperatures compared to conventional steering fluids.

Can your power steering fluid be too "cooled"?

(Like motor oil never getting up to temp?)

I have decided, with coaching, to get a new Ron Davis Radiator with two built in coolers, one for the PS and the other for the oil, makes sense to me

(I will have ALLOT of air flowing through it, tilted forward radiator, fabricated ducts to the grill opening, well vented hood)

If not for that I was looking at some pretty large oil and power steering coolers

AND, one more, maybe two more, parts to get now, I cannot come on here and not spend money!!!!

PS pump and pulley will be ordered on Monday

Rick
