How Much Do American Racing 200S Wheels Weigh ???
Does anyone know how much 15x10 American Racing 200S wheels weigh ???
Not to be confusing, but we used a number of those wheels years ago when we raced C3 Corvettes in SCCA prod. classes and they worked very well.
What I'm attempting to do is compare the weight of wheels I know worked well for road racing to newer ZR-1 type wheels for my C4.
I would like to use 17x11 GM ZR-1 wheels but since they are scarce and expensive, I'm leaning towards (heavier) repro ZR-1s.
THANKS for any info

available when I coveted them 3.5 decades ago.)
While the 200S is listed on AR's site in their Vintage Wheel section, no
weights are given. TireRack offers a section of AR's vintage wheels,
but there is no listing for the 200S. Since TRack does not appear to
display weights for other AR wheels which are similar to the 200S
like the TorqueThrust, an approximation isn't readily available, either.
For actual weights, perhaps try contacting American and a few
vendors to see whether someone will respond. However, don't rely
on just one source's reply as its been known to happen that an
optimisticly light weight gets quoted that turns out to be significantly
less than the weight of an actual wheel. My vote is that the 200S is
heavy due to its cast construction, compared to the selection of more
sophisticatedly cast and forged designs available today.
Regarding the ZR-1 OEMs and replicas.
As OEM ZR-1/GS wheels have become rare/expensive & as replicas
are somewhat heavy, have you considered the '03+ Z/06 18 x 11 rear
wheels? IIRC, the Z/06's aluminum Speedline rears weigh about 21 lbs
and the 17 x 9 fronts weigh about 19 lbs in whole numbers.
Back in the day, near-new take-off Speedline wheels were being
discarded on eBay for low prices as dealers & owners 'upgraded' to
heavier aftermarket wheels. Supply has dried and prices have risen
since then but Z/06 wheels are still offered from time to time.
Other 18" x 11" C5 wheels may weigh a little more and may not have
quite as an aggressive look as the Z/06 wheels, but they will be more
readily available and less costly. Are these choices on your list of
candidates?
Also - if you are not already aware of the offset difference between
the ZR-1 rear wheel (+36) and the '96 GS version (+50), then this is
something to consider if you happen to find a prospective set of
wheels. Getting it wrong may mean that you either need to use
spacers or cope with too much rubber extending out past the fender lip.
I believe these are the correct combinations for 17" x 11" ZR-1's:
- +50mm offset (7--7/8" backspacing) 1988-1996 C4
- +36mm offset (7-5/16" backspacing) 1984-1987 C4

THANKS for the extensive info.
I'm considering 17x11 C4 wheels because I have several sets of 17" Hoosiers.
Basically I'm trying to compare the (heavy) weights of the "old" style 200S wheels that I knew worked well for track use, to "newer" wheels I have no experience with.
Also have 4 18x10.5 C5 Z06 wheels sitting in the garage and intend to use them if I come across any 18" tires.
Thanks again for the info -
