Best newer Vette for track car?
I have owned 03 and 04 Z06s, but now am Vette-less. I am considering jumping back in for a track day/sometimes racing/still streetable car, and want to profit from your experience(s) since I got out of the water.
Of the C5/C6 cars, which is the best for what I want considering:
1) number of track events or real racing series in which they can run;
2) how competitive they can be in these racing series;
3) availability of reasonably priced tires, wheels, and parts;
4) cost to modify;
5) durability;
6) initial cost (new or used).
If you could share your thoughts on these and any other points you find relevant, I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Buy a current sell setup RACE car. Be sure to get the full chassis set up book when you buy. This is the best/most efficient way to get a track car. Buy a WINNING car if you can afford it, but right now it's a buyer's market for C5 race cars....Call Phoenix Racing, they have several race cars for sale.

I'd be willing to part with mine for the right price.
But I agree, if you want to race, buy a built race car. if you want to hpde, I'd say a c5 would be cheap and fun.

Any 01-04 Z06 is a great starting point. The 01' engines are a bit down on power, but have the improved bottom end (compared to 97-00)
You can get spares for next to nothing on ebay, and can easily put in a Kirk or IOPort cage and be NASA legal and relatively competitive in ST2 for just a few thousand dollars.
If you can find a deal on a good T1 car, go for it, but most people seem to inherit the problems the previous owners' created.

Gee that is an interesting statement since T1 seems so restrictive that I'm not sure what anyone can screw up that can't be remedied by at the worst case buying a new crate motor or a T-1 suspension. What kinds of things get screwed up?
