Default Gutted C6 Weight

Wondering just how low you can get a C6 in weight.

If you remove all the glass(sub lexan), interior, wiring, dash(Sub IQ3)

Without the Carbon Fiber Body kit.

No Cage or Fuel Cell (adding later)

???

I was thinking 24 to 2500lbs. Any idea?

hmmm, I doubt you could get down to 2400-2500 with just that.

maybe like maybe like 2800 dry and without a driver.

Our C5 ended up at Just under 2500lbs, with about 100-130-lbs of cage installed. This is no interior, one seat, all factory wiring, glass, steering column removed. Conversion to one stock fuel tank, doors gutted, 15lb battery, stock brakes, VIS hood, ACI front spoiler, headlights removed, auto trans. A manual trans would be lighter.

I forget what Jose said he got his C6Z down to. If I guessed I think he said 2800 lbs with him in the car, full roll cage and fire suppressant

hopefully he will chime in.

my NASA car is around 2850 with stock body (no roof), gutted and a very simple cage. I also have a racing clutch/flywheel, which also saved about 60lbs.

I think you'll need carbon body to get much lighter.

Nice I like the blue devil Bad boy.

Anyone else done this? I thought the phoenix guys go thers down to 2500. But they had a full cage which I won't include right away and dual fuel cells which add weight. Should offset the carbon fiber body kit.

Are you talking about simply removing all creature comfort materials and emissions equipment, or making it a race car?

If you're talking about going down to just the frame rails, you can strip a C6 down to under 2500lbs. Keeping the weight low while maintaining a SAFE and RELIABLE car is a function of the wallet.

Mike,

Why would you put this off? This is the first thing I would do.

Unless you plan on driving it to the track for now.

This is how I would do it. Remove everything in the interior. Carpet, sound deadening, stereo and all the electronics. Remove the seats, steering wheel with airbag and passenger airbag. Remove the dash except the top piece and fab a cf panel where the stereo was for switches. Remove the center console. Remove the AC condenser and pump. Remove the ALL the windows and replace with lexan. Gut the two side doors and completely remove the windows.

Add one seat, harness, and harness bar.

Right now the car weighs 3100 with heavy battery (Save 30 there) and at least 4-8 gallons of gas

My car now weights in at 2,918 lbs including me and my equipment (240 lbs) and 3/4 tank of gas (guess 80 lbs). Dry weight = 2,598 lbs. It also has about 180 of cage and fire suppression system. Without that it would be 2,418 lbs.

It does have a full CF body from Advanced Composite Products (Kerry Hitt), Lexan windshield and rear window, and other mods too numerous to mention. (Holinger transmission, Brembo brakes, engine mods, etc...)

There is no way to go sub 2500 with out stripping it down to the bare frame and getting rid of 90% of the factory wiring.

Stripping it down showroom stock style still leaves a LOT on the table. Trust me when I say its no easy task and #/$ starts to get pretty pricey.

2418 and how much does the CF Body save you? How much is the Holinger trans? ish?

If I could get it down to 2500 without the cf body I'd be more than happy with that setup. I plan on removing all the wiring. Rewire the lights. Then use an IQ3 Data ACQ for all the guages.

Louis since your already on here. Getting an LS7, would you go 427 or 440 with a 4.1throw? I want torque not high rpm hp because my class is hp/wt ratio only.

According to Kerry, the CF body saves about 150 lbs. I don't know how many lbs. were added by the wing and other aero mods. The Holinger is surprisingly heavy, it looks a lot smaller than the stock manual transmission; but weighs almost as much.

Jose.

PS. All the factory wiring was removed and replaced with a MoTec racing system. All other non-essential, including headlights, windshield wiper and fluid reservoir, etc... were removed. Other things were added, such as extra 6 Lt oil reservoir and new pump, etc... Some day I'll put it all together and post it in this forum.

Jose,

I had a 30+lb difference.

I weighed my transmission before installing the Holinger.

Here is a pick from my Update #37 thread.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1823409

With no 75W-90 fluid.

The Holinger weighs under 85 pounds.

Mike,

I'm sure your data is correct, I didn't weigh mine. Since it looks half the size, I expected it (obviously mistakenly) to have half the weight.

Bowmanized,

My car started out as a C6 Z06. Obviously the aluminum frame makes a difference. I'm sure Mike's and Bobby's observations would be more useful to you.

Jose.
