Default So my clutch went to the floor....

What's up with that?

Was autocrossing this weekend, lots of runs, but after launch on one of the later runs, the clutch stuck to the floor.

What do I need to know about this?

I did one more run after this episode and the car seems to run just fine now.

FWIW, '08 Z06 with 3,000 miles on the clock.

what color is your clutch fluid and when was the last time you flushed it?

I just got done a day of autoxing with my z and didn't have any issues what so ever...

Mine has done it a couple of times. It seems to do it after slipping the clutch. The first time it happened I had 400 miles on it and was backing up in a parking lot. I doubt the clean clutch fluid caused this episode.

The 2nd time was at the drag strip during the launch. When I went for 2nd
the clutch dropped to the floor. Before this episode I had changed the fluid to dot 4 and it too was clean.

My Z06 did it w/ less than 500 miles on the car. It's a heat issue. I haven't had it happen to me in a long time.

Maybe 3-4 times in the first 2000 miles, once after that. Car has 14k miles on it. Lots of drag racers experience it.

I use Wilwood 570* brake fluid in my clutch hydraulics, and that seemed to cure the issue.

This sounds the most like what happened to me. I definitely slipped the clutch. Could smell it. I guess I'll write it off to me being a dork.

Default Solve that clutch fluid boiling problem - Easy

I was having massive problems at the track with my clutch locking up or sticking and I was unable to even shift. Turns out it was the fluid boiling over.

A great mechanic recommended getting a turkey baster to change out the clutch fluid between runs. It was getting so hot that it was exceeding the boiling point and creating air in the line.

Now I change my fuel out of the reservoir after every second or third run. I am also running Motul RBF 600 for my clutch which works so much better. I might also suggest that you flush all of your old fluid out, and start fresh with the RBF 600. Its a pain in the *** to do it but you will be much happier in the long run.

While you have the exhaust out, insulate the lines going to the tranny and the brake lines that are directly above the torque tube.

I got adhesive duct insulation at Home Depot for $20. It came in a rolll. This will allow you to run a lot harder and not have to worry about cooking parts. I also did the top of the tunnel where my leg is on the other side. That blocked a lot of heat out of the cabin.

Special Thanks to KC my mechanic for his excellent advice.
