Default 17" DOT R Not Available/Made???

Thinking of going to 17" wheels to save money on tires. In researching sizes I was surprised to see that neither Toyo or Nitto offer "good" sizes in a 17" DOT R tire.

Nitto has the NT01 in 315/35/17 for the rear but nothing for the front. They have a 275/40/17 and 255/40/17 but these sidewalls and overall OD are too tall.

Toyo doesn't offer a rear or a front in a decent 17" track size.

Am I missing something?

I'm well aware of the Kumho V710 and Hoosier availability & sizing but didn't want to go that route due to cost and longevity.

Your thoughts?

TIA

Rick

If your going to drive to and from the track on these tires, stick with 18"

or even just extended use.

Kumho V700s can be had in 17" sizes. The V700 Victoracer and V700 ECSTA series are very, *very* similar, and between the two you can get 275s for the front and 315s for the rear.

A bit more grippy than the RA-1/NT-01s, but streetable and much more durable (and slower) than the Hoosier/V710s.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Just out of curisoty, how much "slower" are either the V700 or Victoracer compared to the V710 on the same car, same course, same driver.

I run 17 in all around 275 front / 315 rear on CCW classics.

I ran kumho v710s and v700s (rain only)

I now run Hoosier R6 for dry, but still use the v700s for wet.

They have plenty for the front in good sizes. The 315 and 275 have the same diameter, and are good as a combo. 315 front is a good combo also. I have used both sizes on track and the street with no problems. 275 can also be plenty fast on a Corvette.

Here are some different size combinations (Front/Rear):

Nitto NT01
275f 275r
275f 315r
315f 315r

Nitto 555RII
275f 275r

Nitto 555RII(F) and 555R drag radial(R)
275f 315r

Toyo RA-1
275f 275r

Nothing wrong with the 40 aspect ratio on the 275. I have run Kumho Victor Racer and 710s with 275 front and 315 rear and I have run 315 all around. Biggest problem with 315s in the front is the wheel. An 11 inch wide wheel like a GS wheel will rub against the lower control arm and scrub off your wheel weights.

Since I autox, where the courses are never the same, it's almost impossible to compare. My gut-feel would be 2-3 seconds on a 100 second course, but it's only a hunch.

The OP was looking for something similar to the RA-1/NT-01, and comparing those to the V700s (I've run both), the Kumhos are better initially, but degrade due to heat-cycles more than the RA-1s/NT-01s. Time difference between the two will be down in the noise for the majority of us.

Have a good one,
Mike

The V700 is an oldie but a goodie, but very heavy. V710 and R6 are much lighter in a given size.
