Run 'Em Til They Cord--or Not?
Ran Pocono this weekend in my C6 Z06 and saw that the rear tires--OEM Goodyear EMT run-flats--are now down to the wear bars. This is an extra set of tires just for the track. I'm planning to run NJ Motorsports next month and would just assume run these until they cord. Any comments?

I do! Tires are expensive, the only reason I can think of why you would NOT is heat cycles and degraded performance of a tire that has been through that many heat cycles, but we are doing HPDE, not racing, so I personally don't care.
I have gotten several days on Hoosiers and Kuhmo's when I went past the wear bars as a reference.

My motto is: "I may be slow, but I'm cheap!"
I run my Toyo RA-1s down 'til they cord. This weekend the radial grooves were completely gone on one front, just a shadow on the other, and I got four sessions out at Motorsports Ranch with one just showing a wisp of cord on the inner shoulder. They're pretty dead as far as autocross goes, though, so I'm swapping them out for some Hoosiers
Have a good one,
Mike

yes, run them till they die. We've chorded a few sets of the Z06 tires so far, and you might as well get your money's worth.
Those particular tires don't seem to fall off performance wise until you actually lose a significant portion of rubber, unlike race tires where the rubber actually seems to get harder the deeper you go (just my feelings)

You can even get another session after they cord.
after the cords come the steel belts, then the rubber liner.
although traction starts falling off rapidly with the cords showing

I have found that the rubber gets hard and traction goes down. I like to replace them at the bars because of this. It's up to you!
