Default ANOTHER seat thread

OMG Yes another seat thread

So I've been tracking my C5Z this summer and have noticed that the stock seats are basically terrible. Lots of sliding around and bracing myself up against the speaker isn't fun.

I have a 2 day event at VIR coming up followed by 2 days at WGI in the next month and I'm looking at possibly getting some better seats but have some questions.

1. I would LOVE a set of Sparco Evos but can I use the stock belts with it or do I NEED a harness bar/5 point? Plus are they really worth the money over this:

2. Anyone have any experience with the Corbeau FX1? Looks like a cheaper alternative to the Sparco Evo and I think I can use the stock belts with it!

3. How uncomfortable are we talking here? I'm a younger guy with no back injuries but I like to take long road trips and don't want horrible back pain after a few hours. Removing the seats before the trip isn't an option.

Thanks for the help!!!

I am starting to look at seats too, so curious about this question since I am looking for the same 1/4 mile drag strip and regular driver, just want something more sporty and comfortable in there.

I put a Sparco in my track only car two weeks ago. It's great for racing but it might be a bit too stiff for cross country driving.

I don't think the stock belts would really work with an aftermarket seat, the bucket sides come up too high and the lap belt wouldn't get tight enough. I've never tried it though.

Also remember that if you do put a harness in you should keep the stock belts for daily driving. In most states aftermarket harness set-ups are not recognized as legal seat belts.

I've been running the Corbeau FX1 on the passenger side and the FX1 Pro (1 1/2" narrower) on the drivers side for two years now in my track car. I'm 5'11" and 200 lbs and the FX1 was a bit too wide, whereas the Pro fits perfectly. I run 6 point Crow belts and didn't try to use the stock belts so I don't know how that would work out. Long trips? Portland, Or to Laguna Seca, Portland to Infineon, and Portland to Thunderhill - but not with out an extra pad in the seat! Their durability and ease of installation (with their slider mounts) was a piece of cake. Since these photos I've changed the sub belts to run up through the center of the seat front.

remember to run those sub belts UP though the seat bottom

Ok in the mean time, go buy some rubber tool box liner. Cut it fit your seat bottom.

Next go buy a hockey knee pad. Put the knee pad on your left knee and rotate so the pad is on the out side of your knee. This should help with the speaker smashing.

I have a sparco evo l. Its the best thing I ever bought for my car. I have driven very far with the seat in, and Im too lazy to put the stock seat in.
But you cant run regular seat belts with a sparco evo.

I have Sparco Evos. Mounted to stock 2001 Z06 seat rails.
Driver side belt works fine. Passenger side belt I had to fab a piece to elongate the belt receiver strap - between the seat and console.
Seat sides on standard Evos aren't very high...belts work pretty well.

I run 6 pt sparcos at the track.
fwiw.

I run the Corbeau FX1 Pros and you can use the stock belts with no problem. Inexpensive seat that does a decent job, plus an easy install.

Definitely leaning toward the Corbeau FX1 Pros at this point (5'11'' 160lbs) so I think that is covered.

Guys that have used the stock belt with the Corbeau do you find that it holds you in well or are you moving around a lot?

You guys have been great, keep the info coming!

Can anyone explain the main differences between a Corbeau seat like this and a Sparco evo? I'm looking to purchase both driver and passenger seats and the price difference between the two could pay for lots of consumables. Is the quality that much better or are you paying for a name?

Personnal opinion - a lot of it is the name and marketing. I looked at both and went with Corbeau. I had been looking at the Sparco Fighter too.

I'm looking at seat options as well. I'm 6'3" 210lbs with a 34 inch waist. I'm thinking the Evo/Evo2 may be too small. Anyone have any experience with the Evo 2 Plus?

I use my car only for autox------

Sparco Evo Driver and passenger seat----

I retained the stock seatbelt----NO harness.

No problems for autox----maybe not the safest thing for the track.

I have tried the EVO2 and it is larger I also think they were comfortable. You should definitely try any seat you plan to buy. I tried many brands and drove over 200 mile to one store to try some and I was very glad I did. The spec on paper looked good but they just didn't feel right. I ended up with MOMO’s I did have to do some mods to fit them in the car. The widest seat that will fit is 17”. The seats I used had to be fitted on the tunnel side because of the flare they have in the front of the seat.

City Goat: We have the Corbeau A4 narrow width in Ray's C5. Very comfortable seat in the microfiber option. They fit on the sliders, it's kind of tight but we do have stock seatbelts operational also.

Come by the shop or stop by the trailer one day to check them out if you'd like.
