Default Running Toyos Backwards?

After a few decent sessions at the new New Jersey Lightning track, my drivers side front tire showed considerable wear on the outside tread. Passenger side tire showed very little wear.

My next event up is the Pocono FUSA course which has probably as many right hand turns as Lightning, meaning the driver's side tire will again garnish most of the abuse.

I plan on swapping the driver and passenger front tires for this event, essentially making my Toyo RA-1's run in reverse of their intended direction.

Anybody see any issues with this? (Assuming the track is dry). I'm not a pro but on the upper end of the amateur driving ability.

No problem at all. You can also get a tire store to flip them on the wheels to put the outer edges on the inner.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Have a tire shop dismount the tires and re-mount them after flipping them over. Then put the wheels back on the car so the tires rotate in the proper direction.

I just had this done with my Kumho MX's at the local Discount Tire shop. $24 a pair to dismount, mount and balance.

Unless you're running in the rain, there is no "correct" direction to run an R-compound tire.

Have a good one,
Mike

I run Toyo's too. I run 275's all around so I'll put them anywhich way in order to get the most life out of them...and then I flip them on the rim about half way through so I can have a new edge.

Speaking of August 8th...I just got brandy new Toyo's so hopefully I can keep up with you boys.

Not true. R888's, for example, are unidirectional and will exhibit excessive wear if run against the tread pattern.

Simple solution, as noted in previous posts, is just flip them on the rims.

Are your Toyos strapped to a new Corvette, Michelle?

Just kidding, I couldn't resist a shot at the Mustang!

Give the girl a break...At New Jersey Motorsports Park she had a full house in that car. I think I counted 5 adults, a baby seat, a dog, some sort of reptile, and an E-Z-Bake oven.
