Default Hoosiers on stock C5 sizes - good plan or no?

I have my street tires... and I have a set of 555RII's for the track, both sets are 275 in front and 305 in the back. I have my OEM set of C5 wheels hanging on the wall doing nothing. I was looking at the Hoosiers and they have the following sizes which are as close as I can get on a 8.5 and 9.5 wheel. I know we all look to run wider tires but being a race tire, how would these handle and what sizes would you go on these wheels?

OEM Front 245/45-17 Hoosiers 245/45/17 or 255/45/17
OEM Rear 275/40-18 Hoosiers 275/35/18 or 285/30/18 or 295/30/18

I think these would do a great job and they would save me money being a smaller tire and already having the wheels.

Here's an alternative...sell you C5 wheels on the forum/e-bay and get what you can for them, take the money and buy some replica aftermarkets just for the street and use your OEM Z06 rims for the track. You'll be able to run the wider tire you want at basically little, if any extra cost. You should be able to sell your rims for around $300 and pick up a nice set of motorsports or whatever flavor aftermarket repo's for less than $500 for all 4.

You CAN have your cake and eat it too!

Actually I would recommend a 295/35/17 in front on the 8.5 as the guys in FS Sherby GT's run the 295/30/18 on a 8.5 x18 wheel.

The car will push with only a 245 on the nose.

On the rear I would also go with the 295/30/18, as the 315 Hoosier is probably too big for a 9.5" wheel.

Either that or pick up a set of C5Z06 wheels and run 295/35/17 in the front and 315/30/18.

Or do what I do in ASP and run C5Z06 wheels all around with 295/30/18 front and 315/30/18 rear

Good Luck

For the last few years I have been running the 275/40/17's on the front and 295/30/18's on the rear. This is basically a square set up so make sure you adjust the rake and counter weigh you car. I have been running about 2 deg front and 1 deg rear (all that I can get on the left side). To stay in the stock class you have to run the original size wheels.

Other than extremely tight events, the car is usually very competitive in SS and NCCC group 1. An equally prepared Z06 will normally have the advantage but occasionally you can beat them.

Huh? David...I saw you had CCW Classics with 295/18's on the front and, I think, 335's on the rear at the National Tour in Atlanta...

I've been running 275/305 Toyo RA-1s on wagon wheels for some time now. Good tire wear, and the tip I give the guys who mount my tires make them smile when they see me, not groan.

Not sure exactly how Hoosier tire widths transfer to those numbers, but you can surely run wider Hoosier tires than stock tire widths.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Hello---Don "The Hammer" Moody.........maybe you better put the "Hammer" down, because you might have taken one blow to the head too many.

Now between you and I-------who would know better what tire combination I run on my car ?

I'm going out on a limb here, but it might be me.

295/30/18 front--------315/30/18 rear

I think I was trying to get at that you said you were running C5Z06 wheels. From what I remember you had CCW's on and that 295 on the front seemed undersized for the rim width you had. Not that it matters...you are faster than me no matter what tires or wheels I put on my car.
