Another small track closes
This was just posted by AutoWeek. USA International is a small track just outside Orlando, FL. I ran there for the first time earlier this year.
I guess that will be the only time.
"USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida--once the flagship track for the Hooters' Pro Cup Series and still a popular testing venue for NASCAR teams--will close its doors after a final race on Aug. 2. Its 47 acres will likely be developed after an everything-goes auction, scheduled for Aug. 9.
The Musco-lit three-quarter-mile paved oval was regarded as one of the nicest short tracks in the southeast, but after the death of Bob Brooks, Hooters founder and track owner, it was sold and the race schedule has been irregular. USA International Speedway has hosted ARCA and American Speed Association races, including the first ASA race run by now-NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Kyle Busch."
We are running out of places to race.....

Not really, there is a real road course going up towards Jville. Maybe even two, pretty close to each other.
There is a new top flight facility in NJ and NC. We will never run out of places to race. Unless you just meant locally.

The new place opening near Starke is more like one of the "country club" places. It costs a small fortune to rent it for a day and they don't have wheel to wheel or timed events, it's just HPDEs (no racing) and private events.

Well, according to where you live (located under your avatar) all you need is a parking lot and some cones. We will never run out of either as progress continues.
Ovals come and go. Ask the new owners of Rockingham.

The course is 2 miles, where can you find a 2 mile course that you can rent on the weekends for less than what they are offering???
There isnt any racing yet, but I bet there will be before long.

My take is just the opposite. Small track racing is a growth market (at least in the Midwest) and the once shabby, poorly lit (even dirt) short tracks are recieving significant capital infusions. Today a saturday night at the local 1/4 mile dirt track goes for $15 to $40 a ticket depending on the race card....and they are filling the stands with NASCRAP fans who have "discovered" its' roots.
