How high is too high on oil pressure? LS6 w/15-w50
Hi,
I added 2 qts 15w-50 and 4 qts 10-40 plus another 1/2 of 10-40 for my last event--no issues with it.
On the street though, when it was only 68 deg (night runs!) I saw an oil pressure last night almost at 70psi. (?68) during warm up at only 2500 rpm in a huge, increasing radius ramp. This spiked when I went in the corner and looks like it would have held if I had not backed off.
I did back off--but what is the rule of thumb for Stock LS6?
Thanks!

Thanks! I intend to change & give a sample for analysis but for future uses next year...was just wondering if the 2 qts 15-50 on a stock LS6 was a bad idea. I had read up here and someone said they had done it but he was just 1 poster.

When i used the high end filter it raised my oil pressure and it stayed a little too high for my tastes. but in 100 degree weather it was fine at the track. next change i put in the mid range filter-has the cool Nascar logo on it and pressure dropped 5 lbs across the board.
for street driving 15/50 is too thick. but for hot track days and oil temps above 260 you need it! you prob lose 5 hp but your engine will last a longtime i am hoping forever!
I keep rpms below 4000 rpm with oil temp under 180
and........i use oil additives! a "Cardinal Sin" here!!!!!!!!!

at NAPA auto parts they have 3 levels of in house filters. These are all made By WIX. The best !

I left work to day and gave it some gas in 1 & 2 (probably 3000 rpm tops) and it got to 75psi but only for an instant and this was a straight line, no cornering.
Got to change this weekend.
I used the K&N filter--it was supposed to have very low back pressure.
