Default New Kumho

there is a new Kumho on their web site. the XS.
It says designed for SCCA.
"auto x tire that will stand up to road racing"
http://www.kumhousa.com/tires/passen...rmance/KU36.do

seems like a good compromise for HPDE's. it appears to be streetable, softer than the MX, but harder than R tires.

If it works in the rain, it'll beat pulling R tires on and off.

COOL - they even show "Comparable Competitor Products" as the Falken Azenis RT615, and have a few 19" sizes...

Treadwear rating is 180. For comparison, the Toyo RA1 is 100 (though we all know these ratings really mean bupkiss).

This one could be a nice DE tire!!

That's a street tire guys, intended for the ST autox classes. It very likely won't have the grip of most of the R tires.

I posted this in the tire wheel tread and luke at tire rack said no info yet but it should be here soon, the website shows c6 stock sizes which is good news, it seem a lot of the hpde/ track tires do not come in 19in. sizes. These would be perfect drive to track event tires.

it's intended for SCCA street tire autox classes requiring a minimum 140 tread wear rating

competitors are Yokohama Advan Neova AD07, Bridgestone RE-01R, Falken Azenis RT-615, Dunlop Direnza R, and I think Toyo has a new one out for same too

the RT-615 is now the slowest tire of the bunch ...

yes, we know it certainly won't have the grip on a R tire. but if we can get 40 track days from this tire, that would be major.

I'm curious as to the wet proformance.

I have considered the MX's in the past, but they don't come in 315's, and I heard the wet traction is terrible.

and with these, looks like you can "safely" drive your car to the track.

maybe they won't kick up stones as much.

Interesting, but no wide options for 18" wheels.

Damn just purchased a set of RT615's this morning in 275/35 all around. Definitely looking to hear reviews of this new tire.

Really? And what street tire class would that be??

STS? Nope - four seats & four seat belts.
STS2? Nope - two seaters but restricted to 1.9 liters or less
STX? Nope - follows STS rules with additional allowances.
STU? Nope - follows STX rules with more allowances.

IOW there is no SCCA Street Tire class the Corvette can run in. At least for now.

They may be a good choice for NCCC's Group I Street classes. That requires a tread wear rating of 110 or greater.

Redline Time Attack's Street Class requires 140+ UTQG rating and no wider than 285's for RWD, 255's for FWD&AWD. So I run 275's all around simply for lack of a 285 width selection.

The widest tire available from the AD07 is a 285/30/18 I believe which is way too small of a diameter to really run on a street driven car(however for a street class limiting to a 285 it's most likely the hot ticket to the winner's circle if you can afford it). They also have a 265/35/18 which is an odd size to me but for some reason it's a commonly produced size. The widest RE-01R, Toyo R1R and Dunlop Z1 SS is currently a 265/35/18. The Dunlop Direzza D1 Star Spec had a 275/35/18 but they are not available right now(production has stopped on this size says Tirerack).

The RT-615, although arguably the slowest of the bunch when using the same sizes, has much more tire selection for those needing wide tires. And I'd rather have 275's all around in the RT-615 over 265's all around in a Dunlop Z1 SS.

Well, I guess I could run those on the front, but I was looking for something like a 335 or 345 for the backend.

Shocking as it may seem there are other cars besides Corvette.

BTW, LA Region SCCA created their own street tire class, called SK. It is Stock rules with the 140 wear tire rating restriction. They split the Stock classes into two, creating SK1 (SS, AS, and BS, I think) and SK2(the rest), and use the PAX index (then an additional 0.98 index to compare to all other classes.) San Diego recently adopted the class. Very popular.
