Default How much life left in my Hoosier R6

I was checking my Hoosier R6 tires and there is not much depth left in the center rings (tread). No cord showing on the tires.

I am in Yellow rungroup in HPDE. I'd say I run moderately hard.

I plan on ordering some new Hoosiers to have on standby when these are gone. Y'all know how much they cost so I'm trying to put it off as long as possible.

I have a HPDE in 2 weeks. Think I can get another weekend or two out of these?

what do the edges look like? Front or back tire? are they all the same? can you move the weakest on to the least stressed position? are the wearing evenly? flip on rims?

with the right amount of camber and careful checking of pressures, I have worn Hoosiers to the point where the two tread grooves were gone. But most of the time, I seem to cord the inside of them first. I run aggressive toe out which causes this, but the cars turns SO well with toe.

If you are not racing or running for time get scrubs, you never know but they last a long time.

Run the old ones. If they cord, run your street tires. If you're running moderately hard your street tires will be fine for a few sessions. I bet you're not much slower with them compared to old Hoosiers...

New Hoosiers would be a different story. But we all know there's no trophy for first in HPDE

I appreciate the feedback. I figured I'd get some wisecracks from this crowd (danbo56)

These are my first set of Hoosiers. They were scrubs and they've lasted me several weekends.

I didn't know how much rubber was left once worn past the tread grooves. They look to be in pretty good shape. They are scrubs so I flipped them when I had them mounted. Wear is pretty even.

There is a performance shop at the track so I can buy some new Hoosiers if it the old ones go. I'd have to pay dearly for them compared to Tire Rack.

I'm going to run TT for the first time in October. I may go ahead and order some tires - just in case. I have 18" wheels all around. I'll keep an eye out for scrubs too.

Appreciate the input guys.

I do have my trusty Obama Energy Plan tire gauge so I'll check pressures regularly.

Tire Rack does not discount Hoosiers (nor does anybody else I know). Don't know who the tire guy is at your track, but I know the ones I've seen at tracks are pretty reasonable.

Agreed. Philstireservice.com does all of the NASA events, and his prices are exactly the same as online, and he brings them to the track for free so you pay no shipping. It's cheaper this way...

Some higher volume repair shops and dealers get Tire rack discounts, but I like to support the guy who supports us. Trackside tires rule!!!

My tire guy has same pricing as TireRack. Interesting.

Shall I open up the can of worms about heat cycling?????
