The Value of Safety Equipment
The value of proper safety equipment can be illustrated in the following photos. This crash happened at Mid Ohio over the Sept 6-7 weekend.

I hope the driver escaped without injury. Point well taken on the safety equipment. As my car gets closer to being a dedicated track car (and less of a street car) I'm making efforts to improve safety. These photos serve to remind me I have safety work remaining to do.

but but but that is only a T2 car and that could never happen in a HPDE because we never go that fast right?
For the driver hope he is well
Can we say CAGE?
Events are all fast enough for that to happen to any of us sadly. I don't even what to be on track without a cage. I have been thinking about it a lot even though I haven't been on track in a long time. Getting snuffed out fast I could deal with but a cripple I can't deal with.

Those pictures point out something else also. The ambulance and trucks were parked too close to the racing surface. Just a slightly different angle going in there and he would have flipped right onto the ambulance.

That was quite a ride. Any links to discussion about the circumstances?
Enter coordinates 40.688692, -82.635684 in Google maps for a view
of the circuit.
Photo sequence includes a positive indication for the driver's condition.
One shot appears to show the driver about to enter the ambulance on
his own power.
Required viewing for those who are resistant to regulations about
equipment, run-off area and location of spectating areas.

Yep, if you click on the enlarge button, you can see its the driver.. first attendant is carrying the helmet.. the driver actually is smiling.
But a good reminder. I started with a 6 pt welded in rollbar before I starting prepping for track stuff.

Anyone know what happened. To go that far one would have to carry a lot of speed. It seems like total brake failure and then there is a bit of a ramp at the end of the back straight.
Glad the driver is ok.

I noticed he has (had) a full containment seat. seems the way to go.
it keeps your head in proper position.
2 of my neighbors rolled their street cars recently on the highway,, and they basically walked away. 1 on an exit ramp, slow roll, the other got cut off on the highway, violet roll. nothing serious as far as injuries. I think the roll over absorbs most of the energy.

For those of us who are visiting Mid Ohio this coming weekend, be fully aware of Turn 7! I know my Viper is hitting much higher speeds at the end of that straight than that T2 Nissan is; can you imagine the fast cars doig that?

oh, and david, how about you keep your times in the 1:35ish range so you can keep yourself really aware of turn 7.
