Default AMB transponder question

Kind of a dumb question, but I just bought a used, hardwired AMB (couldn't bring myself to pay $380 for a new one when there's about $20 worth of electronics and epoxy there). When I wire this thing up, does it need a fused connection to drop the amperage, or can it take full, direct to battery amps?

Thanks in advance ...
