Default Michelins Kick ***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was hoping to turn some better times with my Michelin Slicks from Mike and I indeed managed to peel some 2.73 seconds off my times on the PIR road course. This was eclipsed by the fact Darrell Rayburn set a new track record in TTU with his Michelins - I think almost 2 seconds faster than his Hoosier times!! I guess owning a local 'speed shop' has its benefits!

These tires were a bitch to mount on my 13" and 11" wide CCW Corsairs though not impossible - there is no taper in the barrel. There was very little creep on the wheel after three sessions. My only complaint is the tires are soooo gummy that I acquired a lot of pick-up on the way back to the paddock And of course the 31/71 tires on the rear wore the same hole in the wheel well liner by the battery box that the 28" tall Goodyear slicks did. Big deal! I got out the Dremel tool with a cutting disc and removed the offending area and fabricated a flush replacement.

All the Hoosier guys were suddenly interested in moving up! These tires are kick ***!!!!

THANKS MIKE!!!!

I need something close to a 27/12.5/6/15.These are old Firestone road race tires, and wanting to keep it the same,or very close to the same size.
Do you have anything for the street?
Right now....I am running Goodyear slicks EVERYWHERE I go.

Whoa! The Better part of 3 seconds with just tires over other slicks, that's pretty amazing. Rudy I want to thank you so much for the pics and feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time. It's true the 31/71 is a little taller but the added height is also directly responsible for part of the added grip. A larger diameter tire has a larger contact patch which helps these big HP cars accelerate out of the corners and braking. They also help add rake of your car.

Taller rears is the new tire technology.

Glad you had fun and great job on the Personal Best, that's a huge accomplishment. Gorgeous car and of course the Micheys look amazing.

Keep Pushin' Buddy!!!

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike/Bomanized
Will those tire sizes fit the ZR-1?
What diameter and width in inches?

I have 12" x 18" and 13" x 18" CCW using Goodyear Slicks in 25.5 diameter. 11.5 or 12 width at the front and 12.5 at the rear.

The softer of the two available!

P.S. Wish I could have made it to Putnam Park to instruct this weekend but it conflicted with our NASA event here!

Actually that is the perfect wheel setup for the Michelin Slicks.

We would go with the 30/65-18 front and the 31/71-18 rears. C6.Rs run the exact same sizes.

It's called S7. Within that compound you can get medium and soft depending on conditions. Such as Ambient air temps. However since most people are running 20-30 minute sessions I always go with the softs since they're easier to get heat into the tires. They take one or two laps to get up to operating temps but they really grip hard once dialed.

Thanks so much,

Mike

Mike

How many heat cycles do you expect out of the S7s ?

and do you need a scrub in heat cycle, to get the anti mold release off the tires?

I would say 3 to 6 weekends no problem. It's hard to say exactly since there are so many variables. I know the ALMS cars double stint their Michelins. I know the compound is not the same as the 'evolution' ALMS tires but they're made to last. Historically Michelins take a little longer to get up to temps but finish much stronger and can achieve faster lap times.

I'll probably have more data and feedback soon as I have quite a few sets out there and people will let me know how many track days they were able to attend with great results.

So glad I've been able to be a part of a couple people personal bests and track records. Good Times!!!

I have been changing tires after 21 to 23 heat cycles.

I believe that there is still more there but my track buddies (Porsche GT3 Cups & GT2's) are changing their Dunlops much ealier which forces me to change to stay competitive.

Very good tire and I highly recommend it.

Not much different than Hoosier R6's.

I am sure that the vendor that started this thread will be glad to quote you in a PM.

I buy mine from a different supplier and it would not be appropriate for me to disclose the price on this thread.

Thanks Jim,

Similar to my expectations as well. @ 24 heat cycles that puts you at 8 track days if 3 sessions per day. Less if you go 4 or more times per day.

After some research, I see the 31/71 rear tires wont fit, assuming I got the info correct. The 31/71 is 27.8" hgt, and I have a max working hgt of 26" without mods to the trail bracket. I want the 31/71's 12.2 " width, but not the 27.8" hgt. Do you have a rear tire with a 12.2" wide, but 25.7" hgt?

In that case guys run the 30/65s all the way around. A solid setup.
