Default Mid Ohio T2 350Z crash

Did you guys see this? I wasn't there but came across this. Apparently the driver survived but wow, that was a bad crash. It speaks to the need for paved runoff areas. As soon as it hit the grass it started rolling.

Did he think wings were going to deploy to go straight? I doubt he could have made that turn at the speed he was going in a LMP1 car I think he was going WAY to fast to even attempt a turn. No wonder he kept going and tumbling in the pictures.

I figured it was his brakes. You can see his data on the video and the brakes go on for a second then kind of flicker (and the car wiggles). Like I said, a paved runoff would at least have allowed him to continue to spin and bleed off energy rather than roll and endo. Otherwise he has to think enough and just drive straight and hope the sand trap slows him enough. The cage held up remarkably well, I'm impressed.

Stock brakes on a T2 car.

Its also been mentioned that in that part of Mid Ohio its particularly dangerous because of the drop off after you leave the track. That is also where that BMW got launched off the service road on the inside of that straight.

Joey Hand's wreck was further up the back straight, not entering Turn 7.

The car took the hit, not the driver!!! I'm glad people got smart. Back in the old days the car would have been fixable, and the driver dead.

Yeah, but that whole section has the problem of having the racing surface elevated above both sides of the track which is how these cars are getting air born. Seems like its happened several times now at that track its something that needs to be addressed.

Holy Shhhhh.....t That Z landed in a spectator area! Mid Ohio had better make a change. Guess they didn't get the message after Micheal Andretti's flippty flippty flip.
