Why does this site run so slow...
The banner ads seem to load fine and then the rest of the page takes a minute or so.
Is anyone seeing the same?
I'm on a OC-48 SONET ring and it's still slow.

Slow site
I have been experiencing slowness of this site for weeks. There was also another thread some time ago that did not result in improvement or a response from anyone who could possibly help. That suggest there is no interest in improving it.
I have recently traveled to South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. I accessed the site from hotels in those states and experienced the same slow response.
I hope the advertisers take note. I am getting close to significantly reducing my use of the site due to the slowness, and therefore advertisers access to my purchases.

For those who may not have noticed, performance and general
behavior have been compromised since July when some changes
were implemented at CF.
Regarding the current state of affairs - there is a sticky at the top of
the page dated 9-25-08. Here is the gist of it:
Server upgrade
So don't plan on being here from 10 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. PDT tomorrow
while the upgrade is undertaken. Perhaps allow more time in case
the team experiences delays.
Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

That will take place at 10 p.m. PDT, Wednesday, Oct. 1 and the upgrade is expected to cause about two hours of down time.
The upgrade should address the performance issues and database errors that have been an issue during the past couple of weeks.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

John, it was under 2,000 when you joined, since you are member 1898.
It doesn't matter how many users a site claims, most are innactive due to banning, being spambots, or just gone. You need to look at the total number of active users and threads and topics.
This is from another site I go to.

It experiences no slowness in forum speed.

Well, afterall I was a sailor!
Put the cursor on the user name, right click it. Go to "properties" and you see a number.
Here's what comes up on yours:

That says you're # 40512.
