Default Aaron Quine Races Mongoose Cars At Kit Car shoot Out In St. Louis

It's that time of year again for the annual Kit Car shoot out at Gateway international Raceway. Mongoose Motorsports (www.Mongoosems.com) has once again asked me to race their beautiful cars and see if we can bring home the big one again. But, there are some really fast cars and drivers here so we will give it our best. Mr. Popp was going to join us but his schedule didn't allow so I guess the Kit Car boys will have to wait another day to meet the RAFT man. .

Today was a practice/test day to shake all 3 cars down for thursday, friday and saturday. We run the road coarse like a NASA TT event, running 30 minute sessions to find your fastest lap in traffic. We also have an autocross course as well as drags.

How it works is who has the best car that can run all 3 events. You combine your fastest road course event, fastest autocross time and your quickest drag ET. Total those up and who ever has the lowest scores wins the overall top competitor award. You can also win your class along the way too.

I was fortunate to win this event in 96,02 & 07 and hope to give em hell again this year. There are some really nice cobra's,
GT40's,super 7's and much more. Anything that is a kit car can run but you have a few different classes. Big block, small block,4-6 cylinder and power adder classes. In these groups they have Novice, street, prepared and pro. I am running the pro class in both GTP's and pro small block in the blue #50 GS replica. This car is extremely SICK with a 750 HP motor that is just a missle but doesnt like to stop.

Here are few pictures including Mongoose's new trailer paint & wrap job. pretty cool. I am also running the chase cams on the cars so video will follow later when I get time. I will post some lap times later tomorrow and updates on how we are doing.

Drags are saturday and hopefully the blue #50 car can still get down the strip like it did in 02 for me with a 10:36. BTW, This is the same car I ran in the 2002 One Lap of America and came in 2nd overall.

Take care,

Aaron Quine

Good Luck, Aaron.

Give them a good run, and remember, you don't really need good brakes when driving someone elses car! Besides, all they do is slow you down.

I know you'll do just fine and will home the Gold (especially since you don't have someone with the initials of JK holding you back )

Go get'em!

Default Run & Gun UPDATE with lap times!

Hey everybody, heres a little update. Today went great and got some fast laps in. I turned a 1:03.121 in the late after noon session for FTD in Pro Big block. Autocross went well too winning the class and was 2nd overall to a 1,300 lb gokart on slicks. (no complaints here considering we are driving a TANK thru a tight coarse.)

We still have more roadcourse tomorrow with about 6 30 minute sessions. We are playing with areo and going to tape off some seems and see if we can sqeak a 1:02 out of her.

Drags are saturday and I hope to just get the GTP down the strip with at least an 11.??? pass with some drag radials. If we can do that we have a shot at winning the event overall again on combined times from all 3 events.

Stay tuned,

Aaron

UPDATE EVERYONE! How about .9 Mr. Popp. I was able to pull one out of my A$$ late in the day. I got the OVERALL fastest time with a 1:02.2 to the lotus stalker (I think they call it) with a hopped up LS3 making 460 RWHP at 1,500 lbs with a 1:02.5.

Lets just say I saw GOD on every turn on that session.

I also went out for 1 25 minute session in the old GS coupe #50 and turned a 1:05.3 after 4 laps and parked it. The time held up the rest of the day so I won with that car too in a different class.

Next up is DRAGS tomorrow morning with the yellow GTP and the blue #50 GS Coupe replica. SHAKE AND BAKE!

So how is this lap time for the GTP, any good?

Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow.

Aaron

COOL! Just look for the BIG Kumho silver semi or Mongoose's semi in the drag parking area. We have a drivers meeting at 8AM on the drag strip staging area and then we start running them.

They probably have a gate fee, but should not be too much.

Right on AQ - looks like a blast and sounds like you've got the pedal down hard!
