Heel toe in a C4... anybody?
I'm trying to get the new-to me 96 track car ready for the upcoming season. I have had exactly 0 minutes of seat time in the car so far unless you count rolling around at 5 miles an hour with no seat... give me a break, I was bored!
I noticed when I was trying to find the most comfortable seat position that the gas and brake pedals are WAY farther apart than on my C5. I have no problem with the heel-toe in the C5 but it seems like it is going to be pretty difficult with the pedal arrangement. Am I right on this?

Yeah, it's pretty tough. I'm no expert racer, but when I've practiced hell/toe-ing in my C4 I have to use the heel on the brake and slide my toe over to the gas. Just doesn't work the other way. Maybe some new pedals would remedy the problem.

I installed a MOMO brand aluminum brake pedal cover. It attaches with three small bolts; I positioned it off center and at an angle to close the gap. That is how I got it to work.

I can do it about 95%.
narrow race shoes make it harder.
with sneakers I can do it 99%.
and I find you really need to get on the brakes hard to heel toe correctly.
I have the pedal kit sitting in my basement, that I never installed.

I can't do it with my super small racing shoes (almost need to use them in the C5 and my uncle's C6), I need to use a tennis shoe. A lightweight flywheel helps a lot too, because all it takes is a little blip of the throttle, you don't have to push down too hard.

with all of the above. Total PIA unless you have wide feet and you have to be on the brakes hard. I can jump in a C5, C6, M3, etc and never think twice about it. A C4, mine included...

Thanks guys... at least it isn't as bad as the GTO! It was freaking impossible in that thing. I could actually fit my foot (with a work boot) completely between the gas and brake. My feet aren't huge, and I'll be wearing racing shoes so it looks like I might need to invest in some aftermarket pedals. Anybody have good experience with anything other than the Momo mentioned above? I'm sure it's a good piece, but would like to hear any other options. Thanks again

Never had a problem with my C4 when using the ball of the foot. Moved from it to my 97 and the pedals seemed the same. Base of the big toe on the brake and base of the little toe on the gas.

I wear a size 14 shoe so my problem is trying NOT to hit all the pedals at once!
I do find it easiest though to brake with the arch in my shoe and rock my toes over to the throttle.

Just buy a racing pedal kit, actually all you need is the gas pedal, but the little extra will make life easier for you.
I would go with the grid pattern if your going to do it. FWIW

I was able to get my seat positioned today and finally got a good feel of the pedals. Like the majority of you said, it isn't quite as bad as I thought originally but hopefully with a wider pedal it will be just right.
