Mixing brake pads
Of course I am not suggesting this is an optimal thing to do, but have YOU done it?
I ran an event today & corded fronts & tonight am switching on a fresh set of wheels for Sunday.
Noticed one front pad was tapered & too thin on the lead edge, the other side was good to go.
So I went thru my pad pile & found one that was much better, but not new.
Not sure the brand.
We are talking very similar street/autox pads.
Stock z06/Carbo Panther plus/ Hawk hp plus.
I took it to the street & felt good.
Discuss.

wouldnt be the end of the world i am sure, but wouldnt be as good as matching pads.
just for auto x i wouldnt see it being a huge deal but for Road course i would be more prone to take it easy or switch to whatever full set you do have

I've mixed and matched pads and tires, no trouble. If you get a chance to, swap the pads side to side after a track day then they won't get tapered. I keep a pile of decent pads just like that for exactly what happened.

I've run HP Plus and stock pads several times without any ill effects. It was only because I didn't have enough spares with me. Just work up to see how the car is working before you push it.
This wouldn't happen if I had won the lottery last year.

For AutoX I would not worry about it. For track use it might be a problem. Having a different bias right to left side on the front could cause some squirrly braking on a high speed stop. It is best to stick with the same type of pads at least on the same axle set. If you are getting that much taper on the pads it is time for a new set of calipers. The PBR calipers used stock on the Vettes spread with heavy use and the surfaces are no longer parallel causing rapid pad taper. Watch the C5 parts for sale section. You can usually pick up a slightly used set of calipers cheap.

Thanks guys for the feedback. The mixed set of pads worked fine. We set up a "lapping" autox (really a mini road course) & it had some 3rd gear 85 to 15 stops on two parts of the course (times 4 laps).
About a 1.2 mi course.
Did the course twice, and I could not feel ANY difference or problem.
As said, not optimal, but not a big deal either.
I am going to start "rotating" the pads to even the taper. I will check for caliper spread next time I have them apart, but if there is any, it's very minor. Probably not worth trashing the calipers. I have to run stock & the next set will do the same thing.
