Default what tires/brakes for ST2?

I am making the move with my C6 from NASA PTA to ST2.

I have ordered rear ZO6 fenders - so i can run bigger then 305's.

car has Pfadt adjustable sway bars. LG coil overs, APR front splitter ordered. Looking for on-the-smaller-side rear wing.

i have 4 Nitto 275's nearly new left over from PTA days. i will order a couple of Nitto 315's and use up the nittos.

once used up, any recommendations?

for those who have run Hoosier r6's- how many heat cycles are you getting out of them?

315's on the back?
what size up front?

What wheels? I've got CCW C140s 18x11 front and rear. I run 295/30r18+305/35r18. I believe 18x12 will fit with stock body work in the back.

I believe you'll hear from a lot of folks running C5Z 18x10.5 wheels at all four corners with Hoosier 315s...

My old setup was 17x11's all the way around with 315 V710's. My new setups are 18x10.5's all around with 315's or 18x10.5's (free 295's) up front and 18x12s (free 335's) in the rear.

I know Wally runs T1 ccw wheels, with 315's all the way around.

Its really a crap shoot on whats best. If you can afford it, I'd say run 18x11's in the front and 18x12's in the rear (ccw's) that way you have a WIDE wheel and van fit big brakes.

As for brakes, I'm going the stop tech route for the fronts, but the stockers have been nothing but reliable for a long time. I just HATE spending big money on pads to get 50% of the life out of them, and changing rotors every other event.

I use CCW C10 18X11 Front and 18X12 Rear wheels with Hoosier A6 315's in the front and 335's in the rear. I try to get 2 quals and 2 races out of a set.

For brakes I use the Stoptech ST60 fronts with the 14" rotor and will be putting rear Stoptechs on soon. I ran all of last year on one set of brake rotors and wasn't messing with the brakes all of the time bleeding swapping pads, etc. I think I used 2 complete sets of pads and put new ones on for the NASA Championship race. Danny raced on them last weekend at VIR and they still have a few weekends left in them.

I am very happy with the Stoptech brakes.

Thats the set up we need for T1! I am so tired of my brake and rotor bill
and flushing/bleeding all the time.

, If not running SCCA go this route as it's looks like you will save a lot in the long run.

I would look into running the ST-40 kit over the ST-60 kit, just because the pads are close to $100 cheaper per set. They have an ST-40 kit with the 355mmx32mm rotor for the C6, besides saving on pad swaps you also will save when you rebuild the calipers.
The only advantage to running the ST-60 is that the pad is a little larger and should (in theory) last longer, but I don't think they last $100 longer.

You're getting a lot of opinions from C5 guys, so just take it with a grain of salt. The C6 doesn't seem to tolerate the wide wheels and tires as well. And you're throwing C6Z fenders in to the mix, too. I think C6Z guys are fitting 18x13s and 345s on the rear. The front will be your biggest problem, IMO... Ecklers has cheap C6Z front fenders, nose, etc, now which may be worth it for a race car. Then 18x11.5 or more should fit up front with 315s pretty easy. Call John@CCW about wheels+tires. I'm sure he can steer you the right direction...

Agreed 100%. Change as you see what you need, but the stock brakes work VERY will with DTC's. I dont even run 60's in the rear, i love the 70's and just how quickly they help stop the car

I've never had a problem with their reliable stopping power.... but I did spend $1200 last year ALONE in consumables.

That is my only problem with them.

I agree... When the rotors were 18-20 bucks a piece then it was a no brainer.. Now that they are 45-50 then it makes sense to change. But not messing with them all of the time is the big bonus for me.

That that is the big one right there, not messing with the brakes between sessions.

but the stock C5 / C6 calipers with race pads and NAPA rotors are more then good enough to get you going.

I run 18 x 10.5 on front with 295 tires, and 18 x 12.5 on rear with 335 tires. Hoosier R6 I run for 10 heat cycles, the first 5 for races, and the second 5 for qualifying/practice. That said, I now run Hoosier A6 tires all the time and only race on the first 3 heat cycles. However, I would stick with the R6 untill you get up to speed as they do last a little longer. I would also aggree that the stock calipers will serve you well for a while (especially since you already have them) and you are better off spending money on seat time. You will get more out of that at the beginning. The rotors are another story though. We have a 2 piece racing rotor for your car that uses Coleman Racing rotors and we machine the hats ourselves. Our rotors are 100% made in the USA, are directional, slotted only - no holes, are a direct replacement, and weigh 3.5 pounds less then the stock rotor each. We also have them for the Z51 size as well.

Combine those with a set of Cobalt Friction brake pads and you will have plenty of stopping power. Cobalt Friction pads offer unbelievable initial torque with no fade, are easy to modulate, wear far longer then any comperable race pad, and are not hard on rotors at all.

Although i just got a set of DBA slotted rotors, that are the ****! I love them!

thank you for all of the helpful advice to all of those who replied.

i have been impressed by the stock z-51 brakes. now that they are properly vented, i have not had fade problems - even in Arizona.

i run Performance Friction pads up front and back. very easy to modulate and moderately good stopping power. but i agree - very consumable!

i have Baer rotors on the car. they are pricey but do last a whole season. problem is that they are VERY heavy.

i had StopTechs on an Audi race car. the big difference seemed to be BALANCED braking. hard to explain more specifically - but they just seem to upset the car much less then the stock brakes on that car and as best as one can compare to the stock brakes on the vette. with money i have spent recently, stock brakes will have to stay for now.

i was struck by the large wheel/tire size people are running up front. I think it was Aaron, however, who is running the 295's.

i wonder if the smaller tires up front will help the car turn in at the short tracks we have here in Arizona. i can see larger tires doing better at a place like VIR or Willow Springs.

Stop Tech brakes work very well with the Corvette brake MC. If you need more, then a few ppl have used the GMC K2500 MC.

Yes smaller or thinner tires work quite well on shorter tighter tracks. 275 - 285 fronts and 305 - 315 rears. Any thinner and you may not get enough corner traction
