C6 Z brake vibration
Dad's 08 Z has started to have some vibration at light to medium brake pressure. If you go full on the brakes it's nice and smooth and they stop great. I'm assuming this is the dreaded uneven pad material transfer that I have read about. Can I simply pull the rotors and take some sand paper to them then re-bed the pads back in?
BTW: It's still on stock pads and has 7K miles currently.
Thanks,
Eric

I would go with the sandpaper.
Stoptech used to loan out Hawk Blue pads. A lap or two around the block with cold Hawk Blues will take everything of the rotor surface.
Stoptech also has a link to a white paper written by Carroll Smith about "warped" rotor myth.
If can see or feel the built up on the surface you also might be able to remove it with the end of a flat file or hard gasket scraper.

Replacing the rotors on an '08 Z is a PIECE OF CAKE. Don't get a shop involved (unless GM will do it for free) and don't have someone "turn" the rotors. Buy new ones online (about $100 each), remove the wheels, remove the calipers and use some "zip strips" to chain the calipers to the upper suspension. Once the caliper is off, the rotor (free floating) comes right off. Put the new one on and put everything back together.
I'm about to do this in the next couple of months. I'm seeing the hairline cracks start to show at the drilled holes.
Naturally, my car gets abused just a bit.
