Can track rotors be turned?
I bought a used big brake kit that came with 4 2-piece rotors. The rotors had some rust on them so I hit them with a random orbit sander. After cleaning them up a bit I see some material wear in the sweep area, microscopic heat checking, and some rust stains.
I was wondering if it makes sense to have a shop do a few very light passes on a lathe. I don't care about getting the surfaces perfect, I just want to freshen up the majority of the sweep area. I really don't care what they look like as they are for track use only.

Some shops won't turn rotors that are drilled/slotted. Any warping of the rotor can cause the bit to grab a slot or hole. That can lead to a quick destruction of the rotor and/or machine.
If you the Baer 2-piece Eradispeeds, you should be able to get new rotor rings and keep the hats.
Most people that do track days typically buy stock rotors and toss them after they have worn out. No cracks around holes to deal with and less chance of a crack turning into a number of flying chunks of metal. Lots cheaper than the expensive rotors. You can also match rotors and bedded-in pads and just install them for track use.
